Q: Does this item come with the supporting poles? The description above is contradictory ?

No, you buy the poles separately. With the tarp you receive, 6 guy lines and 6 metal pegs, a small bag to keep the guy lines and pegs in, which fit inside another bag along with the tarp. There are 6 tags accompanying 6 eyelets, three on opposite sides of the tarp, the diagram shows where they are situated.

Hi yes it’s very light and packs small. Very easy to squish into a rucksack etc. Comes with guy lines but you need to buy poles separately. Dries no bother.

Q: may sound like a daft question...but what is the size of this item?...feet or cm will do...or is it really under a foot long like you are advertising?

The dimensions you are looking at are for when it is packed away in its bag. You have to look in the item description for the size when it's up. But that's wrong anyway. The one I got was about 2.7m wide, 2m long. And don't forget that there are no looked even though it shows them in the photos
