Thank goodness for these letter cubes!
My 5 year-old was getting SO frustrated with himself when it came to writing letters in the correct left-to-right order and spelling short words properly. He's VERY much a tactile-kinesthetic learner and a building block addict so when I stumbled across these, I bought them immediately. The first time he began working with these blocks, he was able to "spell out" with blocks the three letter words written on a sheet of paper properly. Most of the time he likes to assemble random words and have me "read" the gibberish he spelled (which has helped him learn letter sound combos when he decides to join in and "read" the hilarious absurdity he's put together!) After spelling gibberish, he wants to spell something real and returns to my handwritten spelling & sight word sheets he uses to create words. I've noticed his use of proper upper & lowercase placement has improved (no capital A's in the middle of words now) and he's feeling more confident about his spelling abilities, which wouldn't have come with forced pencil & paper repetition. Plus, these LOOK like a toy which guarantees he's going to be ten times more interested in them than the dreaded blank, wide-rule writing sheets whose mere appearance seems to induce instant whining and resistance.Note: It is possible to spell words "backwards" with these blocks (ie: spelling 'saw' as 'was') and my son did that the first couple times until I showed him how the block's connector ends had to face the same way and then we added pieces on like a train. The first letter is the engine and since nothing can be in front of the engine, the other blocks have to go behind it to make a letter train that spells a word. This helped him and I have thought of making a simple "train track" on a sheet of paper, with a special spot on the left where the "engine letter" goes and the rest of the letters follow on the track. This might help others who are looking for creative ways to help tactile kids learn spelling because - I kid you not - my son is just as likely to stick his pencil up his nose as he is to write a word on a sheet of paper and these blocks have been a wonderful way to tackle spelling!

Another A++ Didax Product!! Awesome Multisensory Phonics Program.
The price is RIGHT!!!! Thank you!!! Arrived fast in perfect condition. Didax has not let us down yet. :)!! I was so excited when they arrived fast! I love the Storage containers too! The upright container leaves room on the homeschool shelves for more fun Learning items! I will admit I have the entire collection of Reading Rods by Learning Resources. The collection is massive and I’ve had to organize it just so. Although Reading Rods has their own perks too... The Unifix Phonics Cubes can travel with us much easier. The containers can be stored in the car. They keep the youngest busy n quiet too. She also has a better awareness of patterns n knows to stack her letters cubes by color. Blue red blue patterns are associated w CVC words! One thing- Do be aware... I have 2 different brands of “Reading Rods” letter cubes- they looked similar! Nobody told me, they Do Not mix together!!My Unifix Didax letter cubes are sized slightly different than the Learning Resources Letter cubes Reading Rods.Didax smartly priced the high quality activity books and accessories can be seperatly. We love both brands!!! Quality and price are similar once you purchase the Didax extras to progress to the next level of phonics. Didax separated their accessories- Very smart!I just wished I knew the letter cubes didn’t fit our Learning Resources Reading Rods! I’m a huge Didax fan! The quality n prices are fantastic. All the items r easy to use.The multi sensory approach seems to help my youngest! We’ve worked extra hard to create a learning environment she needs to succeed. I’ll be purchading many other Didax products as we make our way through school n she’s starting to create her CVC words!! Thank you didax.I hope ALL this info helps :)!

Great product!
My son really enjoys "playing" with the blocks and cards. They are well made and sturdy enough to withstand a five year old. There are plenty of each letter and the vowels and consonants are different colors which helps kids remember the difference. All the blocks and cards fit neatly in the jar when we are finished with them. The only improvement I could suggest would be to make the cards double sided. They only have CVC words on one side - if they put words on both sides it would make them doubly useful.

Quite fun for the kids as they're so hands-on
Quite fun for the kids as they're so hands-on. Love the fact that there're 90 cubes per set. Makes putting longer words and even short sentences together more realistic. Definitely not for use in hot/humid weather. I run a small school in Japan and learned this the hard way over the summer. They're fine the rest of the year, though. All in all a good supplementary item to be incorporated into English lessons.

Beware that tape lifts the letters off the cubes!
This is a great little product to give kids some hands on practice with letter sounds/beginning word formation. We bought our letter cubes four years ago and they have held up well, but I recently noted a problem. My son decided to make some words and tape the cubes together last week. Today I was taking the tape off and it is lifting the letters right off the cubes! Just a little FYI so you don’t do the same.

Let's build some words
These are a great manipulative for an early childhood or home school classroom. I am using them with a 3 and 5 year old. They are very easy to connect and take apart. They work similar to Unifix cubes. The vowels are red and consonants are blue. The cubes show upper and lower case letters. My children use these for spelling, phonics, and sight word practice. I did purchase the picture cards to go with for independent practice for my younger child. There are so many uses for the cubes. They are a great value.

Anyone else notice this?
I am wondering if anyone else has noticed that students are "printing" words from right to left with these unifix cubes? Even students who do not struggle with print direction when writing with a pencil and paper. Hmmmm...

I bought them for my classroom and like many items I had to use my own money
I just wish they were less expensive because I would buy more. I bought them for my classroom and like many items I had to use my own money.
