Wonderfull buy!!!!!
I installed this printer on a laptop that did not have a CD-ROM drive and so i expected it to be allot harder to install but to my joy all i had to do was visit the hp web site and found the CD to download and it was quick and easy to do. the install went smoothly and with a little adjustment witch was a part of the set up it was printing photos and papers like a pro and extremely quick for color about 10 seconds WOW!!! LOL just remember something i forgot to do lol i put the print cartridges in and forgot to take the tab off the black one in my hurry to put this thing to use lol but it was easy to fix and i was off and running again!!!!Great buy!!!!

You can't go lower than rock bottom...
This printer has been a thorn at my side. I currently have Windows 7. I was skeptical about the driver issues. HP loads a bunch of junk software that you don't need. But at the same time, installing just the printer driver won't allow you to maintain or calibrate the D1660.Now for the problems leading to a 1 star review:-I received a couple of BSOD after a failed print and it referenced the HP USB drivers. I also can't remove any print queue from the windows print spooler when it fails. So far I had 1 successful print out of 8 and already the black cartridge level shows nearly a 10% decline for TEXT!!! I'm not printing pictures here just receipts and documents.I probably do have a defective item considering the luck from other reviewers. Literally this HP says it is out of paper and I have 5 sheets in the tray. I hit the power button to try again, still shows no paper. I hear the gears moving but it won't feed the paper. I took the sheets out and inserted only 1 page and it accepted the page. That's ridiculous.-When that one page was printing, it stopped 50% and said a paper jam! I pull it out and hit resume but it wouldn't respond. I can't cancel the print either and my system takes a dump to the aforementioned BSOD and windows print spooler.HP's quality is certainly declining. I have a PSC 1410 which was great until I ran out of ink. I purchased a new ink cartridge. The printer wouldn't recognize the new cartridge and I was too lazy to return the cartridge for another one. I never heard of people returning faulty print cartridges... and how can the printer be defective when it was working all this time and ran out of ink.-Instead of wasting another $40 on ink... it was actually more cost effective to buy a new printer. I don't understand that. Well I ended up with a crappy D1660 which I probably will recycle soon.

A nice printer for the money!
Doea a great job with black ink printing, and lines up perfectly. Uses a lot of black ink so buy extra. Took me a while to set up as I had to erase old HP printer software.Does NOT come with a USB cable!!!!

It eats Power Point slides
You have to buy the cord that goes from the printer to your computer, it does not come with the printer. The cord arrived a week after the printer, which was annoying. It took me about 45 minutes to run the CD software and it put about five applications on my computer, which I don't need. The software also looks for updates constantly so I uninstalled that one after three days. The first item I went to print was a Power Point slide, which it ate and I had to pull the paper out. Eventually it did print--but it took a while. Plain documents print fast, but if you have color/art on the item it takes a long time and it is loud. Some people would say, what do you expect for $35....but I have always bought cheap desktop printers and had better experiences. At the end of the day, it does work, but I would not suggest it to a friend of family member looking to buy a cheap printer.

Good for the price; Tips for driver installation
Good, cheap printer. It prints very fast and with good quality. I haven't used it long, so I don't know how long the ink cartridges last. This is a nice, small printer that fits easily on a narrow shelf, which is exactly what I was looking for.Biggest negative is setup. First off and most annoyingly, this printer does not come with the USB cable needed to connect it to your computer. This is the first time I have purchased an electronic that did not have something needed for its functioning. Absolutely stupid. Fortunately, I was able to rob the cable from another device.Secondly, Windows could not install a driver for this without the disk. Using the HP disk is a slow process and can lead to a lot of bloatware being installed on your computer. The key is to read everything and to watch for the screen during setup before you click the "I agree" button and to first click the options above that have asterisks. There are two different sub-pages where all of the extra HP junk can be deleted. Otherwise this will have to be done after installation. Even though I did only driver installation (6MB), it took more than a minute. I use Windows 7 and this didn't seem to complicate the process at all (unless that is why it took longer to install a driver).Overall, this is definitely a good buy once the annoyance of installation is done. The price is unbeatable.

Great printer for the money
Got this as printer to send to college with my son's MacBook Pro. Very compact, quiet, fast and worked out of the box with no issues. Setup in OSX is a snap, there was nothing to do, it just worked. Plug and play. It does not come with a USB cable, but for $29 I can live with that.

Trash.
Picked this printer up on a whim a year ago so that I wouldn't have to borrow my parent's printer for printing out long assignments for my college classes. Up until this past week the printer worked perfectly. Now, it's bringing up nothing but errors and stopping print jobs in the middle of a page; wasting valuable ink in the process. Would I recommend this to anyone else? Hell no. This pile is unreliable and not built to last. I've had older HP printers that lasted 4+ years and still printing strong. I will be taking this printer outside to a tall building and dropping it from the top just to see it smash into pieces.
