Useful.
Although the designs could be considered a bit old-fashioned, I bought this for practical information before attemping those less than easy fabrics! There is certainly a lot of useful advice for a beginner like me.

Good if your a beginner or your ability sits in the middle. Very helpful if unsure what materials you need to use. There is always something new to learns. Good buy.

Not quite what I expected
I am a total new beginner to machine embroidery and wasn't sure what book to buy. This isn't quite what I thought it would be, it explains about different fabrics leather etc and some designs which I think are quite old fashioned, I think it would be ok if I was a bit more advanced.

I just purchased a machine to embroider and had zero knowledge. The book is well written and has chapters specifically on various kinds of stabilizers and when to use them, needles to use, and various hooping methods. She tells you why various fabrics are a problem and how to troubleshoot; what to try first, etc. She does not endorse any one product but lets you know what is available. Then there are specifics for each difficult material in their own chapters. It is a reference and resource book I will be going back to constantly.

I guess I am not sure what I was expecting so I'm not sure I can really review this book very well. I do believe it is an excellent reference guide for materials, stabilizers, needles, and threads which may come in handy in the future. Not much on patterns or ideas that I remember. I honestly flipped through the book a couple of times, but not one I've spent a lot of time in reading.

This is a fabulous lift along the learning curve for anyone new to the wonders of machine embroidery. It is well illustrated, easy to understand and is a great value. Really a "must have" for folk just bitten by the fiber art bug.
