The Book of Ayurveda: A Holistic Approach to Health and Longevity

A doable method for self health. Good starting place!
Great starter book for Ayurveda. Could use a glossary and maybe photos of different physical features for different doahas. But a good overview. Not preachy or pushy. I can almost hear the author speaking in a soft affirming voice as I read. Makes me feel like I could get a handle on this self awareness technique and apply it for better well being daily. Author encourages small changes so no pressure. If you want to get into this ancient medical practice for self health, be warned it will require lifestyle changes and diet shifts. No magic bullet here. Just a lot of awareness of how everything from seasons to food to life events affect you daily and how to avoid accumulating an excess of any one kind of 'energy' within your system. A willingness to make changes is requiredFor millions of people this is the only 'medicine' available to them. But it works and has thousands of years to back it up unlike our side effect ridden Wishy washy western medicine! And no one looking to get rich off unnecessary meds.Glad I bought it! Will be read and referenced repeatedly!

Best introduction to Ayurveda available.
Best introduction to Ayurveda available! It is comprehensive , with tables , colorful diagrams , pictures and explainations that facilitate assimilation of the major concepts of Ayurveda. The concepts of wellness and disease formation are not well understood in the West . Health is the absence of disease in Western Medicine . There is no empowerment of the patient by telling them their tests were "negative" . How about a path to wellness and an individualized approach to get there. Ayurveda has got it. Because Ayurveda is very difficult to assimilate into one's lifestyle (one has to know their mind-body type/Dosha type to balance through diet, exercise etc) this book is one big step to making Ayurveda the ticket for your longevity and sense of well being. The only criticism I have is that the link between Yoga and Ayurveda as a complete wellness system is not made. They both share common origins and Ayurveda forms a basis for Yoga Therapy with Dosha assessment a key element. Dennis Pelon, PhD, C-IAYT

This could save my life!!!!!!
I recommend this book to anyone with diabetes. The book will help anyone that is suffering from Diabetic Neuropathy of the Feet and Legs. I had a lot of pain on the bottom of my feet and some of the Food I read about stopped the swelling of my feet and returned them to normal.

Good Intro to the subject
This was readable and easy to understand. Not sure I agree with the system completely, but the book with photos and the way it's laid out made the topic interesting.

excellent overview
This is an excellent overview of Ayurvedic medicine. I liked knowing the background of the doshas and how they all relate to one another. This made the diet and other lifestyle recommendations make a lot more sense. Great book.

Great to start with and worth to have for the basics that are most important
Though I was a bit skeptic about buying it, thinking it is going to be too basic and too much of a 'blahblah', I am happy to have and to use it. The style of writing was a nice surprise as I find it very balanced with simple basic explanations, touching deeper questions we shouldn't forget providing a common understanding without too many words. It embraces the whole concept that is often missing while talking about ayurveda as it isn't just a way of cooking or way of healing it is a way of living and the book nicely presents it by discussing daily routines, activities, emotions. This is book is not for ones who seek recopies, fast advises or whatever it is to follow, though there are some of course, but it is more to understand the concept, to get aware of all around us and inside us that can help to understand yourselves better and just by understanding we can help ourselves and find our way of life.
