This is an interesting contact cement. I suggest checking youtube for Springfield leather's adhesive savvy video. This has instructions on using various types of adhesives for leather and will also be useful to understanding adhesives for other applications. It has a moderate ammonia smell but this is far better than the chemical stink of most contact cements. You only need to apply to one surface, not both. Slick surfaces may need some scuffing with a wire brush, sandpaper or such. Some leathers will do better if also roughed up to get more tooth. But even on quite slick surfaces I've had good results.I've had better results with a thin layer than thick one due to some quirks on this glue. While it holds quite well, is flexible and hasn't slid even when I've used hand pressure to try to slide leather around to test it, you can remove it by starting at an edge and peeling it back. It will still be sticky enough to probably place in another spot at least once. Whatever you peeled it off from may have residue and if leather, probably leave a mark as the finish and dye may have been lifted.Put on a thin layer, goes on white, when ready to use it will be clear. I have used a heat gun to speed up dry time. When it is clear it will quite sticky. To position larger pieces of leather, I usually position without glue, clamp or tape down part of it, fold it back, apply the glue to that end and when dry, roll down so it all lines up, smoothing out any bubbles or ripples as I go. If need to reposition, lift up and readjust as necessary. When I am sure it is set right, I use a brayer to help press it down evenly. Then fold back the other side and repeat.I have used this to glue thin and thick leather not only to leather but vinyl, glass, wood and metal cuff blanks. It won't take the place of all my other types of adhesives but I am using it more often than I expected.
