Although I am giving this item a 5 star review, it is based on the apparent ease of operation that this pump has. My husband had a tracheotomy and was using a rented plug-in suction machine at first which he was not using after several months as the drainage was almost nil. We decided to get this pump as an emergency unit in case he ever did need to be suctioned again. So far, we have been fortunate not to have to use it. Having experienced the powered unit, this one, though manual, seems to operate the same way. It is well constructed and worth the money. Because items like this one cannot be returned, we recommend a lot of research before making your decision. You must also be aware that there are no instructions and any included materials are in Chinese as it is shipped directly from the manufacturer in China. Having worked with the powered machine, I personally had no problem seeing how this item works.

Very handy. Comes with catheters
The only thing I found frustrating was it that the instructions were written in a foreign language. I went to the website, same thing. I looked up the device on YouTube and found a very short tutorial on how to use it.Otherwise a handy device.

Not very effective
Instructions are in Chinese, but it’s pretty simple to figure out. One thing that helps is to close your mouth while using, just like you do at a dentist’s office. Although the mechanism works, it’s not very effective. It’s also awkward to use if you’re trying to remove phlegm from a small, specific area. The hose attachment is very flexible, which helps. We came close to throwing it away, but it does help a little in clearing the strangling phlegm that’s a side effect of throat cancer radiation.

excellent for a had use suction
not as strong as i would have liked however for a hand held suction it is excellent. obviously it would be very hard to create a suction like a wall unit in the hospitals. It sure beats not having anything to suction.

I thought there would be a bit more suction then there was. It does provide some relief.
