So this review will compare the Stagg Professional Heavy Duty Folding Orchestral Music Stand to that standard.This stand is heavier than the Manhasset-style music stand-The heaviness is in the base and legs, and everything that contributes to its ability to have a variable height. I play some gigs outside. Sometimes on uneven surfaces. Sometimes on ships. Sometimes in wind. Playing gigs can be unpredictable. This stand's legs are adjustable in width so in the most extended position, the legs have a larger base than the orchestral-style stand. The larger base coupled with the heaviness of the base it makes for a more stable stand. I see the heaviness and width as ideal because most times I need something more stable than the orchestral stand when I play out.It is not as easily adjustable as the orchestral-stand. To adjust the height on this stand you have to loosen a knob, pull the music holder portion up to the correct level, then retighten the knob, which is a lot more work than just stepping on the base and pulling the music holder part up to height and letting go, like you do with the orchestral stand. BUT - this stand DOES shrink to a smaller package than the other.The orchestral style stand's music holder is made of some type of alloy. It is light. The Stagg stand's music holder is more like steel. It is heavier, which is one of the reasons why, I suspect, they created it with holes. Being made of steel, it is more bendable than the orchestral stands. Even though it has rolled edges, unlike the Manhasset orchestral stand which doesn't have rolled edges, it can become deformed easily. No problem though...you just bend it back!To adjust the orchestral stand's music holder, you just push or pull the music holder to the position you want it to be.With this stand, you have to loosen 2 knobs set the position and then tighten them back. It is possible to find a preset tightness for the knobs and use that through all the position settings, but for more stability it is better to retighten the knobs once you find the ideal position and it will be very hard to move it, unlike the other orchestral stand.All in all I am very pleased with this purchase. At my house I'll used my Manhasset, but for gigs, I'll use the Stagg Professional Music Stand. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The best I've ever used. *by J***N on Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2012* I am a former semi-pro (part time?) musician--tenor saxophone--who also was on staff at Berklee College of Music in Boston for several years and still plays once in a while. In my lifetime of music stand use, there have been two basic types: rock solid stands more rigid than a bicycle frame so they could stand up to generations of abuse, and light, flimsy folding stands which likewise would stand up to years of abuse but not to a stiff breeze or a heavy load. This stand is a nice combo of the two. It's as solid as it needs to be for daily, regular use, and it folds up nicely for when you're hitting the road.These days, I mostly use this music stand in front of my bicycle when I'm riding my  CycleOps Fluid 2 Indoor Bicycle Trainer , and for this particular use it's ideal. I can easily read a book or magazine on this stand while riding the trainer.Most importantly, this stand is solid and heavy enough to use with a reading light attached and have a full load of papers on it (two or three reams of copier paper, no problem), and the shelf is easily big enough and wide enough to hold a Real Book or orchestral score.About the only thing I don't think it would hold up to is a conductor using it as a gavel, slamming it on the floor during a mid-rehearsal tantrum--otherwise it should hold up to any sort of daily, professional use. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very impressed with quality and price *by T***R on Reviewed in the United States on April 25, 2012* I was skeptical but I am absolutely sold on this is music stand. Delivery was extremely quick set up took about 2 minutes. I was really surprised at the quality of the stand at this price point. The base is very sturdy, it's infinitely adjustable and since I played mostly in my home studio, I could care less if it had a carrying bag were not. The main portion that holds the music is made of steel. It has a number of holes evenly spaced across its surface. I assume it's probably a weight reduction design although if you use a laptop on it the holes act as ventilation which is even another plus. I have an old mini-halogen Littlite that I once used in my stereo cabinet and I find by drilling two holes I can mount this on the very left image of the stand. This seems like a perfect combination, the Littlite has an 18 inch gooseneck and it works perfectly with the stand. I have had a number of other music stands including the skinny tubular chrome ones that fall over if you look too hard at it, because at the time that's all there was. I checked out all the other stands by other manufacturers and they all have basically the same design however, I think the Stagg Pro gives you the most for your money.
