Amazing Build quality, The best of the best!
Surely the best gigabit switch available in the market now for the advanced home users and as well as for the enterprise networks. The leds are very bright just as should be.As its a semi managed switch, we can manage it using the netgear prosafe utility which is available online through netgear's website.Once done downloading and installing the netgear prosafe utility, the first thing which is recommended is to download and flash the latest firmware as the previous firmware's got some bugs.It does heat up a little so having some extra space around it will surely help it to remain at stable temperatures.

Zero maintenance, high productivity switch
Had it for 3 months now. Here's my experience.1) didn't have to configure a bit - just plug and play2) didn't have to restart once in these 3 months3) very quiet operation - I guess there's no fan4) every few days I try to see how hot it is, and never felt hotter than room temperature5) getting great speed, a little less than the theoretical (and advertised) maximum but that depends a lot on your specific network architecture, configuration, and usage.Remember it's a gigabit switch, so your speed will be limited by the slowest equipment you have, or your router if you have one connected. It has 8 ports which are plenty for a typical home usage scenario. It has a small footprint (not bigger than the length of my hand, and then some) and looks just fine on the desk / cabinet but comes with some screws and has two wall mounting slots at the back.I've used it for data transfer wirelessly via my wireless router and via direct ethernet connection and had good results. So far, very happy with this purchase.

Works like a champ; rugged construction
We've had an entirely flawless experience with this switch. It's as robustly constructed as rackmount boxes for commercial use but sized more appropriately for small businesses.I was originally a bit concerned how a switch cascaded behind a router would behave, say, during a power cycle but this has been no problem at all. I just never think about it. It just works, which is great because I don't have a lot of extra time to play IT dept.We have multiple GbE network drives behind this switch and my desktop attaches to the network a router away from this device. I've not gone out and measured throughput differences or latencies since adding this switch but neither have I been tempted to: The user experience has been that it is entirely transparent and any additional latencies are under my threshold of perception.

so far so good
the switch is great for the short time i've had it.it's mounted with screws, upside down, on my basement ceiling.no issues so far. plenty of room for expansion.it services streaming boxes in my living room and on myback porch, and it feeds a subnet in my bedroom (gs105e).the gs108 switch gets its feed from an actiontec wirelesscable modem on a fiber optic system (similar to fios) providedby my phone company.the documentation is on disk or on line and is acceptable, not great. the provided software may turn out to be useful.updating the firmware was easy and straightforward.it is fast enough for anything i've needed it for.i'm very happy with the gs108ev.2's performance so far.

If you can live with the utility program, it's a great switch.
I generally had good experience with Netgear switches so far. No exception with this one, too. Terrific build quality, a bit skimpy power supply, and a horrible utility program. Out of the box, the utility program that came on the CD worked without problems on Windows 7. Except, when I upgraded the firmware, I could no longer manage the switch. That turned out to be just a poor choice of user interface modification from earlier versions of the utility (to get the password box, you need to push 'Apply' button instead of simply selecting the switch, which was the case with earlier versions of the program). With basic functions like VLAN, QoS, and port mirroring, it's a good switch for SOHO environments. For any other business settings, you will want to consider getting the fully managed ones with proper web interface, SNMP, etc.
