The best filtration available after eheim 1500xl
A must have unit for bigger tanks - below are the reasons one must check before taking a buying decision 1. Huge flow - the rated capacity without media & if placed parallely (the filter) along with the tank is 925 gallon per hour - 3500 litre a hour. With all sponges & media the true circulation is between 580 to 600 gallon/hour which, still, is a staggering 2100+litre/hour. Which means the true ability lies in between 500 - 1000 litre of water volume. This sheer horsepower is equivalent or more than the mighty eheim 1500 xl as far as circulation speed is concerned. However the wattage is only 41 watt compared to eheim 1500xl's 65 watt 2. Suction power - I have never seen such suction power in any canister filterers. As the strainer is huge in size - no debri, if come close to it, able to escape. Even the strainer is anti clog in type which restricts the periodic servicing need. 3. Huge corrugated pipes - as the pipe dia are huge compared to any other normal filters - it ensures prolong service free operation. 4. Intelligent buble removal process - as the pump stops every 12 hours & release any traped buble - which ensures the impeller rolls with lesser friction & maintain a lossless throughput. 5. Ease of maintenance - as the installation is fairly easy & already predefined - you won't go wrong at the time of installation & maintenance. 6. Premium parts - all the components are made of high quality plastics & the aquastop valves are excellent. The click lock sound is satisfactory. The steel clamps are good finishing touch for ensuring leak proof inflow & out flow. 7. Noice - as the pump sits in bottom - u can hear a humming sound which is barely audible, specially in winter season if seats close to it 8. Unmatched mechanical filtration - the filtering capabilities are unmatched. Water remains clear for a longer period of time. My tank never looked so clear. There are certain points worth mentioning 1. The bio filtration is limited as u can only use middle portion of the trays - compared to the sheer size of the unit. an other filter is required for bio filtration - in my case I'm using eheim classic 600 - another legendary filter. 2. Heavy to lift - the filter is pretty heavy when full with water - always use the drain pipe to empty the filter at the time of maintenance. It will reduce the weight significantly. 3. The drain pipe - the drain pipe sits just next to the pump - you have to pretty attentive when pulling it from cabinet - any blow can break it & can cause a massive leak. 4. The mighty pump - the pump unit as sits at bottom. You have to be careful regarding the substrate of the tank - in my case the strainer sucks sands - many a times my Oscars found messy with sands - they keep on digging substrates. Sand is absolutely detrimental for the impeller it can cause serious damage & the impeller is pretty costly a affair. As the pump sits at bottom it has more power to suck sands from bottom surface to the impeller direction compared to the filters where pump sits at the top. Hence always use substrate bigger in size - which can't go through the strainer. The pump unit is a separate one - u need screw driver to un screw it. U have to be attentive regarding the pressure while un screwing process. As it is metal vs plastic - greter force may can break the holder & lesser force may can result in leak. U don't need to clean the impeller in every maintenance in order to ensure the longevity of the motor 5. Out put nozzle - the output nozzle is a dual mouth one - which may not give the justice to the sheer power of the pump. U don't get a spraybar type for greater surface agitation. It must be included. 6. price - the unit is ridiculously pricey. Fluval shall reconsider the price in india - price correction can give a great boost of its popularity. Don't forget to register your warranty in fluval official page after the purchase. I can surely recommend this one. No other filter except eheim classic 1500xl can come close to the performance. In other word fluval FX 6 stand as the ultimate filtration equipment for any aquarium money can buy

Powerful and silent
I had an Eheim 600 and with my cichlids growing bigger in an 120G aquarium, the water always had a tint of yellow like having a bogwood. 2 days back I got this and I really must say this American made stands out. The design is sturdy and has better hose pipes than Eheim with clips for easy installation on glass borders. I was expecting it to be noisy due to the bigger motor but it isn’t and the power consumption is way low than Eheim 1500XL.

Beats expectations
We have used multiple canister filters for many years now and nothing compares to the Fluval FX6. It looks like a high-power beast and runs like a suave beauty, silently and efficiently delivering unmatched filtration that is amazing to sit back and watch. We cannot get enough of it. It is impossible to be disappointed by the Fluval, it delivers. Our tank has never looked this clear with this little effort.

The best canister filter ever...
I upgraded to fx6 from eheim. This is way better than the over priced eheim classic filters.

Simply the best filter on the market.
The Fluval FX line of filters is a real work horse which rarely goes wrong if you do the upkeep on it. I use one on the tank I have my turtle in, and it keeps the water crystal clear, even though the old boy digs a lot an tries everything he can to cloud up the water. If I take it off line for cleaning (which is a breeze) or maintenance, it will get the water clear again within an hour if the turtle has been very active while it was off, and much sooner if he wasn't moving around too much. He's a very active turtle, and a very messy eater, but he's neither active enough nor messy enough to overwhelm the FX-6. I also use an FX-6 on my hillstream tank which requires a lot of flow. It pushes the water through at a very good clip so that the stream has a pretty good current for my hillstream loaches and for my rainbow shiners to run in when they're getting ready to spawn. I have the FX-4 on a 20 gallon tank which is probably just a bit overpopulated, But again, it is a good enough filter that it keeps the water quite clean. With surface skimmers on my tanks, even the water's surface is clear. To clean the filter media, all you need to do is lift the media baskets out, the use the filter's bucket to clean the sponges and reusable media, replace the media which has broken down too much to be reused, or which uses chemical treating, then either empty the old water out and replace it with fresh clean, or keep the old water if it's not too bad (it is almost always too bad). The reason you clean the media in the water the filter bucket has in it is so that you don't loose any of the beneficial bacteria which is growing in it. The FX series of filters have variable flow valves, which is a nice feature, though many filters have that. If you close the valves before opening the lid of the filter, you don't have to worry about draining the hoses, and they will be good to go when you turn the filter back on and open the valves. No priming needed. Everything in this filter is easily repairable if something goes wrong. If something happens which wears out the impeller, it's very easy to take the old impeller out, and drop a new one in. It's also easy to replace all the O-rings when they get old and start to loose their ability to seal the unit. If you're unlucky, you might need to do that once a year, but it's more likely that you'll just need put new lubricant on them. I am mechanically challenged, so if I find it easy to take care of, I'm sure just about anyone will be able to do it. I have had problems with several of the other big brands of filter makers, but I have never had a Fluval FX series filter go south on me. I recommend them to anyone who wants to keep their fish's environment clean and healthy. If I ever start another tank, I'll definitely be buying another Fluval FX.

One of the greatest filters ever made!
These units are made sturdy very thick plastic buckets with a powerful motor to filter large amounts of water!. I am currently using this on a saltwater tank and it is holding up against the salt after two solid years of running. Also there are complete seal kits that you can buy for maintaining the filters life it even comes with a new impeller and ceramic drive rod assembly and all seals needed. All parts are available and change out easily if broken Fluval though of everything with this filter.
