Root Mushroom Farm—Golden Oyster Mushroom Grow Kit

These are delicious. Easy to grow. I kept mine by the sink for best humidity. The plastic bag could be bigger. I lost a clump when the larger of the two went off to the side and pulls the bag over the smaller clump. I can’t wait for my next batch. And here is a recipe to share-Golden Trumpet Pasta1/2# cooked bucatiniOlive oil2 large shallots finely diced ~ 1/4 cup1/2# golden trumpet mushrooms de stemmed and torn or cut into fork sized pieces1/4+cup dry sherry1/4 tsp white pepper1/8 tsp dried lavender buds (8-10 buds)1/2 cup heavy creamJuice from 1/2 of a Meyer lemonSalt to tasteCook the pasta according to directions and set aside to drain. Heat the olive oil in a large fry pan. Add the shallots and fry them until they are all translucent and just beginning to brown. Add the mushrooms and cook until they are well wilted and the moisture in the pan is nearly all gone. Add the dry sherry white pepper and lavender buds and stir until the sherry has been fully absorbed. Add the heavy cream and stir to incorporate. Add the pasta and stir in the sauce until it is re-warmed and the sauce is coating it well. If need be you may add a little more cream at this point.

I took a chance ordering this kit because it was promoted during the Thanksgiving sales. Normally I would buy from Fungi Perfecti. I am 100% satisfied, and actually very surprised with how well this kit performed. I was able to get two beautiful flushes from this kit; often a second flush is hit or miss. My photo is from the second flush. There is no sign of contamination and I am ready now to start new spawn using the remains as starter.I recommend this and other products from Root Mushroom Farm. They appear to be a beginning business according to their website and are doing a great job so far!

When received the log was showing quite a bit of brown – I’d say nearly as much brown as white. It was inoculated and mycelium was present, but it was well short of “ready to fruit”. I’ve done mushroom kits in the past and this is the first one that’s taken more than a couple of days to start showing pins.So, I sprayed several times a day, set up a humidifier to run 24/7, and waited a couple of weeks for the mycelium to finish colonizing the log. Eventually, after 2 & 1/2 weeks the log was showing almost fully white in color and the first pins popped out.Pro:• No mold• Price: at $22 (on sale at the time) it is one of the lower cost kits.Con:• Was shipped earlier in its life cycle than it should have been.• Required weeks of attention rather than days to get it to where it should have been when it was shipped.• Fruiting bodies failed to mature. After a few days they all wilted and died.• Failed to produce any mushrooms suitable for eating.In closing – this kit is a true waste of money. I made every effort to nurse it along despite the failure of the grower to provide a kit that was anywhere near ready to fruit. From the results of my efforts, leading to a complete failure to produce usable mushrooms, I have to believe that the growers are reusing mycelium, rather than new inoculate, over and over again leading to weaker, less productive results. I base this conclusion on my success at having the mycelium completely colonize the substrate with no mold forming to compete. Despite this complete colonization and the formation of pins which did grow to a height of ½ to 1 ½ inches, the mushrooms failed to mature and simply wilted back into the log.I’ve grown mushrooms before from inoculated substrates and have had excellent results. I spent more time and effort with this kit and obtained zero mushrooms suitable for consumption.I give this kit one star only because giving it zero stars is not an option.

Was easy to grow wife love it

These mushrooms have a short time between blooming and dying.. but luckily my box has been a vigorous grower. I'm on my 4th flush and I haven't even had to soak it yet.

HiIm was very happy with my mushroom kit but the mycillian will not produce mushrooms.Is my temperatrure here too cold? Its between 45 to 55 outside, but had it inside.It still looks healthy just not growingCan you help me?

We have been a customer of root mushroom farm for the past 3 years or so.Original order was shitake. Had excellent results... Approximately 4 flushes=+/-1lbs each 5 lbs total. Delicious and well worth it.Decided to order as gifts for friends and they had similar results.This year we ordered more as gifts. Unfortunately the wrong mushrooms were delivered...1 quick text to RMF and the correct mushroom log was here in 3 days... They even allowed me to keep the incorrect log which I'm sure will be great.These guys are the best. If your looking to be introduced to the wonders of growing at home mushies, look no further

This mushroom kit is so much fun. I didn't take pictures of the first several flushes, but these are ones of the 4th and 5th flushes. The kit says you can get 2 or 3. The 2nd flush I rested the log like the instructions, but was a little late on the 3rd. It just started growing on its own. So for the rest of the flushes, I sprayed the log and bag both until the mushrooms started, then just the bag. Other mushroom kits I've grown make it to 3, but the 3rd is usually very small. This will probably be my last as the log is beginning to smell. LOL. I highly recommend this kit.
