City Unseen: New Visions of an Urban Planet

A book for everyone!
I love everything about this book! The imagery is both scientific and artful and the narrative that Seto and Reba create is both personal and compelling. They each share their own stories, nostalgia and experiences that are so relatable I felt immediately connected to them and their love for the planet - which they manage to make feel a little less massive than we’ve known it to be. Perhaps most important, the compilation - without force or judgment - inspired me to consider my own relationship to the earth — it’s evolution and growth. In terms of general aesthetics, the quality of the book is amazing; the paper is thick and glossy and the images are exquisite. I can’t stop looking at them. My 7 year old daughter wants a few images as posters in her room!Once City Unseen arrived and I had time pour over, I quickly realized that I’d be buying multiple copies for gifts this holiday season - for kids, adults, eco-concerned or artists... it’s truly for everyone.

A book to be apprciated on multiple levels
I bought this book based on some sample posts I saw on Twitter, but after reading it cover to cover, I've found that this book can be appreciated well beyond simply enjoying the the striking images. Namely, I developed an appreciation for the various tools and techniques that can be used to interpret color spectra and other features from satellite images. Additionally, after going through the book in sequence, I worked from the city-specific index to do my own digging into other land forms or features that showed up in the images - sort of a more sophisticated "Where's Waldo?" dimension.

This is a keeper.
For those with a love for satellite imagery, urban planning, geography (of all specialties), sociology and logistics, this book offers a brilliant view of many urban areas of the world. The views offer new ways of looking at cities, particularly the very old or the very crowded. I loved this book so much I sent to a friend in another country because they couldn't get it there and I knew they would enjoy it a great deal. This is a keeper.

Beautiful planet lesson
It is a beautiful book. The text is completely understandable and one comes away with a better appreciation of our planet and its geography. The book made me want to learn more about the earth’s complex geography and to see more of the extraordinary places discussed in the book.

Loved it!! You will never look at cities the same way again.
Highly recommend!! After having bought this book several weeks ago, I can’t seem to put it down. The images and the stories are so compelling and draw you in wanting to understand more. The insights into the evolution of the cities are fascinating and provide a brilliant microscope into our entire species. Loved the city indexing in the front!
