Canon of the Five Orders of Architecture (Dover Architecture)

The information is instructive. However, it is a "facsimile" edition, so the reader must endure the old style type and out-of-focus illustrations and numerals. It would have been a major effort to re-cast the type-set and line-drawings. But, once the reader adjusts to the old style, it remains informative.

This book is not written on a comprehensive way. I was expecting something for beginners.

You need to appreciate antique writing... it's somewhat obscure to a laymen like me, but it brings the authenticity of the architectural design canons of the time.

So far, I have only skimmed this book but found it interesting. Looking forward to reading it from cover-to-cover when time permits!

A very handsome and informative book. Essential reading and I will certainly recommend it. Vignola was a very influential architect.

The content of this book is good but the paper and cover quality is rather poor.It was cheap so I guess you can't expect too much.

"Canone dei cinque ordini di architettura" (pubblicato la prima volta nel 1562, probabilmente a Roma), il Vignola ha presentato un sistema pratico per la costruzione di colonne nei cinque ordini classici (toscano, dorico, ionico , corinzio e composito) utilizzando proporzioni che derivano dalle sue proprie misure di classici monumenti romani. La chiarezza e la facilità di utilizzo del trattato di Vignola nei secoli successivi lo ha reso il libro più pubblicato nella storia dell'architettura.
