Perfect laptop for college.
Bought this laptop for my niece at christmas, so she could use it for college. One of my friend's is an IT guy, he told me to look for a laptop that had at least i5 processor (this laptop is i7) and at least 4 GB ram (this laptop has 8). I didn't want to spend over $650, so this was in my budget.Setting it up was easy, had no issues with that. Laptop is fast and I had no issues with the wifi.

For the price, go ahead.
The laptop is pretty. I was expecting it to run a little faster. I think it might just be windows 8 bogging it down though. Everything on it works very well. It's very lightweight and runs quiet.

I honestly love everything about this laptop
I honestly love everything about this laptop. It's fast, it's quiet, and it has Windows 8.1, which I like, and the speakers are loud and clear. The screen is also great, and it feels solid, like it's not going to break. The reason why I don't give it 5 stars is because the screen arrived with one dead pixel. Just ONE. And it's annoying, because it's in the center of the screen. The only reason I don't return this computer, and yes, one dead pixel on arrival is reason enough to return it, but I don't live in the US, so it would be really inconvenient for me to return it. I do admit I expected more from Toshiba, and while I love my laptop, I would not recommend it, because of that dead pixel.

Decent for entertainment, if you don't plan to do anything else with it.
15' screen, 1 TB hard drive y 8GB Ram make this machine a powerhouse for multimedia. Not so much if you want to plan to use it for work. In my opinion, the chiclet keys are too far from each other, making tiping extremely unintuitive. The battery life is not impressive, and the plastic build has a flimsy feel. I don't see this unit resisting constant travel and use. Furthermore, ten minutes after unboxing, the backspace key fell off. Amazon provided great customer service and shipped me a second unit. After moderate use I have noticed that the computer will disconnect from the wifi every time I used it, which undoubtedly defeat the purpose of a multimedia machine. Also, it will overheat in about an hour of use. It is Decent computer is your main use is entertainment, but only if you dont plan to move it, type, or use wifi for longer than 2 hours.

Good laptop but monitor is very lacking
This laptop is rather fast and the sound is very good, as is the keyboard (with shallow keys) and the overall design. However, I do not like the monitor. The screen is pixelated and is a low resolution HD (not 1080p). Thus, the images are a bit pixelated and the type is not super clear in outline (and I did tune the type on my display: it is still not very good). The other thing I don't like about the display is that it changes depending on the angle that you are looking at it so I find myself adjusting the angle of the monitor for the right balance. Overall, a mediocre display on an otherwise good laptop. I still like the laptop but the monitor severely detracts from its potential so I am only giving it 3 stars.

very good laptop for the price
very good laptop for the price. it doesn't have a powerful graphics card, but unless you want to play some new games, then you don't need strong graphics card anyway. the computer is quite powerful with i7 and 8 GB DDR3 RAM. storage space is also plenty.computer is also very light, at least by my standards, compared to my previous gaming ASUS laptop.I had this laptop for more than a week already, and didn't have any problems so far.also for the record, Windows 8 is not nearly as bad as people were complaining. I didn't have any problems using it after Windows 7 (though I have to admit, I'm working in desktop mode only). If any problems appear in near future, I'll update this review, but for now I'm giving it 5 stars.

Great piece of hardware
The hardware rates a 5 but the OS is at a 2 or 3. Microsoft has done it again. They have let the bugs from their latest release go without fixing them. The UI is far inferior to the OG, with this hybrid between windows and app based UI. My biggest gripe with them besides the freezing is the security. Pay 59.99 a year for basic detection and removal, if you want actual security that will be another 79.99. I am convinced that there so called security is nothing more than a back door directly into your hard drive unless your willing to pay top tier prices. I will most likely put Linux on it. Great piece of hardware!

DONT BOTHER
I bought this laptop last November - worked fine but its tinny and poorly made my screen hinge on right hand side has completely fallen apart - it is not even a year old NEVER have i had a problem like this with my Sony HP I will contact Toshiba but please do yourself a favour and do not buy this particular Toshiba. Its flimsy and I always thought Toshiba had a great reputation for solid road hardiness. Not anymore its joined the rest of the ranks and its pure plastic rubbish. This is the by far the worst laptop in terms of build i have ever bought and I dislike HP intensily. I own an old 17" toshiba and its far hardier than this one I am so disappointed I cannot begin to describe it and I live in the sticks in Africa and depend 100% on my laptop. My first laptop some 26 years ago was a Toshiba. I will never again buy one - ever..... I mean not to have lasted even a year and no it has NEVER been dropped so all i can say shoddily made and cheap plastic. I bought this through amazon.com but trying to get the warranty info from the seller is impossible. Never ever again.
