The RepTech external ballasts will also work with other brands of HID lamp as long as they are the same wattage. HID lamps are the best option on the market at the moment for providing your reptile with UVA, UVB and heat. The lamp and ballast are an investment to start with but will be cheaper on the longer run. Ballasts will last for many many years, lamps for up to 18 months (if you can't measure output then replace every 12 to be safe). A 70 watt HID lamp can replace a 160 watt mercury vapor bulb in most set ups, your power savings alone will pay for the units cost in no time.
