I've been burning about one of these Our Own Candle Company mason jar candles per week for the last few months and haven't gotten any scent more than once (I think). That's not a statement on the candles themselves, just that I like variety and I've tried a variety of these scents. Following is a review about the candles in general and some notes about these scents in particular.Pros: The handle makes it easy to move still-burning candles without handling the hot jar. They burn cleanly, leaving little wax at the bottom of the jar, and they're such nice jars I've just cleaned them out and am using them as drinking glasses! The sheer variety of scents is amazing and some of them are really rockstars when it comes to scenting the whole house, especially the fall scents (Harvest Festival and Pumpkin Spice), Nice Melons, and anything heavily vanilla scented (so anything with Vanilla or '& Cream' in the name).Barely even cons: The wick tends to pull up lots of wax, leaving these big black bulbs at the end. If you leave them alone they'll make the candle flame bigger, which burns the candle faster. But if you make sure to trim the wick, you won't have that problem (Note: I received an unexpected pair of wick scissors when I ordered the Sassy Pack, which was a pleasant and useful surprise!). Once you get about halfway through the candle, the flame will start leaving soot in the top half of the candle. I personally don't care about that, but I can see how someone who was more concerned about the aesthetics might find that bothersome.Con: The potency and accuracy of the scent is pretty hit or miss. I'd say I've gotten about 50/50 on candles that fill the house with scent (see those listed in pros) and candles that smell really nice but only within about a 4' radius. One unexpected experiment was getting a Cinnamon scented one and a Hot Buns (also cinnamon scented). The Hot Buns filled the whole house with cinnamon scent, but the Cinnamon was one you only smelled if you were within that 4' radius. Regarding accuracy, I mostly refer to a couple of candles I've gotten that the scent was... a little off. The Hot Chocolate one has a habit of vacillating between a nice hot cup of cacao and a melted tootsie roll on a summer sidewalk. Both very nostalgic, mostly pleasant scents, but makes for a strange candle experience. The Banana Bread (such as in Smell My Nuts) smells very much like artificial banana flavoring, like banana Runts or Circus Peanuts (did you know those are banana flavored?!). Again, not necessarily bad - just... strange. The problem is that with a few exceptions, it's hard to know whether you'll get a fills-the-house scent or a 4'-radius scent.

Hands down the best smelling candles in my house, and the funny names make them even more perfect! You won’t regret these candles!

BAD PART ABOUT IT:Some of the candles have holes in the wax, and they're pretty sizable holes. Which is common to happen with the shape of the jar, as far as I'm concerned. But because of the holes/gaps, once the wax melts, it can't melt what's around it, so the wick keeps going down and is eventually drowned by the wax.I went in the candle and flattened out the wax to the lowest level of the burned portion of the wick, and it's been working just fine, since.But I feel like I shouldn't have to put in that effort for the candles.Maybe either the manufacturer needs to make sure there aren't any gaps by tiping the jars around while filling. If it takes a day longer to ship, I wouldn't even be mad. Others seem to be impatient.GOOD PARTS ABOUT IT:They all smell AMAZING. The ones that don't have holes in the wax, burn beautifully and I just want to snuggle up to the smells.Very convenient looking jars for repurposing, and I'm looking forward to being able to use them even more, later on.Very puny and quite a pleasant surprise (they were gifted to me for Valentine's day, but we share the same account) when I saw and smelled the melons candle. 😂I love them so much, other than the needed elbow grease. 😍

This is one of my favorite candle brands to purchase. I gifted part of this set and kept one for myself. The smell is strong, but not over-powering, and they are long-lasting. Would recommend!

Have to say HOW DISAPPOINTING these candles are!We live near a Yankee Candle outlet store which has been closed since the pandemic, and not wanting to pay their normal retail price to have them delivered, have gone from one product to the next all complete disappointments. You’d think I’d wisen up and just get the real thing....it’s not for lack of trying to economize though!These candles arrived packaged very well, and are very attractive with their handled Mason Jars.On opening them, they have a pleasant scent, all seem to have a strong vanilla undertone to them, but whatever.The fragrance does not leave the bottle into the room, however when they are lit, even after a couple of hours, very hard to tell for instance, that you’re really burning a cinnamon candle.Be careful trimming the wicks as these are very soft candles, apparently due to having soy as their base. Your trimming scissors will come out totally coated, and there is a risk of submerging the wick to keep it trimmed to the manufacturer’s recommended 1/4 inch.They do burn fairly well and uniformly and seem to last an appropriate amount of time as opposed to other similar products.Our entire family is very spoiled by always previously had very fragrant candles to freshen up the place after cooking or the dogs are bathed, etc.These had relatively little to no effect even in a smaller, confined space, like a bathroom, a very necessary location indeed!Upon reflection, this olfactory deficit may be due to the fact that they are soy, not paraffin based. Perhaps that’s the key to a very pungent and long lasting fragrance from a candle.They are, however, quite attractive, and I’m sure this is a quality company, given it’s over the top packaging to deliver to your door unscathed.I believe these would be a very welcome gift to a family member or friend who does appreciate a pretty and unique burning candle, but may not care for anything heavily fragranced.....this would be a perfect choice for them.I hope that you find this review entirely fair. We didn’t get what we’d hoped for, but the hassle of returning means we will use them, most likely with another vendor’s candle burning as well.
