Logisys CS4801H Industrial 4U Server Chassis Cases

I agree with Lewis Morgan that the case flanges are a bit oversized, but whether or not it will fit depends on your rack. If your rack is out-of-square, you will most likely have a bit of a problem. It can probably be handled by using spreader bars on your rack during installation.In my own situation, I don't care because I remove the flanges anyway, using slide rails and shelves to manage the rack. In all other respects, this case is a very good value. Because it works fine for my own situation, I gave it 5 stars, while acknowledging that it may be a bit awkward for some users.---- Updated info ----Additional information you should know about this case:It is not as deep as what I would consider to be a "normal" rack mount case. This means that you have to be careful about your build sequencing. For example, I am using a full-sized Crosshair V, Formula Z motherboard. This means that the disk drives will hang over the SATA connectors. I simply pre-wired ALL of the ports (8 of them) before hanging the drives. You also have to pay attention to where the drives hang relative to the major features of the mother board. On my board, I had to insure that SSD or 2.5" drives were hung where the MB power connector needs to go.I love the shock mounting provided for the drives. I also have 4x3.5 HD, 1x2.5 SSD, and a 5.25 optical drive mounted with room for several more units (at least 1 more 2.5, 1 more 5.25, and two more 3.5 units). It remains to be seen how effective the airflow will be, but with three fans (one big in front, two smaller in rear), I'm not worried yet.The front panel containing the reset and led assembly is a bit cheesy. It has a design with good "snap-in" intentions, but the execution failed. To compensate, they used hot glue to hold it in place. Unfortunately this is not a hot glue application. As a result, on one of my cases, I had to spend time repairing their design flaw. We'll see how chronic this is since I purchased 4x of these cases.I suppose I should knock 1/2 star off for this flaw, but still... it remains a good value and does not affect me for my purpose.A build is always accompanied by "issues" and this does not qualify as something major. If I really wanted to avoid these issues, I would spend 10x more on a different box.--- additional information after building 4 servers with these boxes ---There is a lot to like about these cases. However, a few groans are in order. The boxes have an odd center bar that is a throwback to previous years when you wanted to have overhead "fingers" to help hold down (i.e., stabilize) your oversized cards. This is an expensive piece and I haven't seen an oversized card in at least a decade. The screws that hold this bar in place are very difficult to remove. I destroyed a screwdriver removing them because I had to approach them from an angle rather than head-on. Further, if you have a configuration that requires a tall CPU cooler, this hanger is exactly in the wrong spot!The motherboard standoffs are an unusual height. Normally it doesn't matter so long as they match with the case's cutout for the motherboard's external device template. They match just fine, but you only get 9 of them. A full-sized board requiring 10 standoffs is common enough that it's really odd they are so tight with these extremely inexpensive parts (in the quantities they must be buying them).They should skip the overhead bar (or make it a separate option) and throw in a few extra screws.Each case had it's own issues. Their QC is not paying enough attention to detail! Maybe they figure they don't need to pay attention for an inexpensive case, but it eventually rubbed me wrong enough that I now must reduce my rating to 4 stars considering these issues, as well as my previous comment!Still a good buy, but very little effort on he manufacturer's part would go a long way. Oddly, much of that effort would actually make it cheaper for the manufacturer to build!

If you are looking for a case with all sorts of quick-lock fasteners for hdd's and such, then this isn't the case for you. If however, you are looking for a robust case on the cheap, I think you will be very happy. To start, you have to remove the cross brace to install the motherboard. Not bad, just a few screws. The hdd and optical drive cases also have several screws holding each, but are easily accessible. I was pleasantly surprised to find the screws for the cages mount to spring mounted rails. I don't expect my server rack to be going on any roller coasters, but it's a simple improvement. Anyhow, the cages came out, installed drives, reinstalled without any issue. Replaced the cross brace and closed it up. Did I mention this thing is robust? I am very happy with this case. Like I said, it isn't fancy, but it seems to do the job it was intended for very well.

Before I begin my little rant I want people to know my rating on here does not come from the fact that I overly and overall hate this case. I actually bought this case because I liked this case a lot, found it very wonderful to build in, worked well for my white box servers, and would have been a great over all case if it hadn't been for the fact that it would not fit in my standard 19" rack mount assembly. This case is exactly 1/8 of an inch too big to get into a standard setup. I am not sure what they were thinking on this one but it will not work with any of my other severs and in any of my racks. I tried this even in my buddies rack and it was a no go. Got amazon to send me 2 NEW ones (which by the way these were, fresh from logisys) and they still don't work. Overall great case to build in but unless you are doing a custom rack don't buy this without the warning you WILL BE MODING THIS CASE!!!!

Great case for the price! I purchased this case for a small network server build. The case is tight but I knew that going in because its a shallow depth case. If you want a case that will fit in a audio rack this is a great case. My build included 6 - 3.5" harddrives a microATX MB and a quad NIC. Server has been running continuously for about a month with no cooling issues. If you need access frequently to your hard drives I would not recommend this case as I have already had to swap a drive and it was not a simple process. Even though this case has some weakness they are not relevant to my rating since the product was exactly as described.

As other reviewers have noted, be aware that this case is a bit on the smaller side depth-wise. Make sure you're not using a huge motherboard. I _barely_ squeaked by using a full-sized dual-CPU server motherboard (SuperMicro X8DTL-3F rev2.01). It was tall enough for some serious CPU fans (INTEL EXTREME CPU HEATSINK FAN E97381 LGA 1366). It's been working great, and is made of reasonably sturdy metal.

Good case when you can get it on sale. Large enough for some good coolers. Hard drive installation was a chore to get how I wanted. Wire management is also a nightmare, but that's par for the course on a shrunk 4u case.
