Source Naturals Mental Edge - Brain Boosting Supplement - 120 Tablets

This is a good item for those who are NOT on SSRIs. I just wish it was available more consistently.

Not as good as Megamind (impossible to find) but a definite great second place..Though it is now impossible to find. If you find it tell me where!!!

Years ago I grabbed a notepad and looked at several books about improving brain functioning, & made notes about what supplements were backed by research and how much you should take of each, according to the studies. I then went to Whole Foods and started putting all these various supplement bottles in my cart. I saw Mental Edge and read the label and found an extremely close parallel between what was in that bottle and what was on my list (you would have to take 12 pills a day to reach the therapeutic doses in the research literature, but that sure beats putting them all together separately). I put all the other bottles back and got just Mental Edge, and have stuck with it since then.The brain governs EVERYthing in your body, thoughts, emotions, memory, alertness, as well as basic functions like breathing and coordination (I was a psych major with emphasis on biology). Mental Edge has a well-rounded profile that benefits the whole brain and thus every aspect of your mind and body, more or less. I have become a big fan of Source Naturals supplements in general. To cover all the bases, also look into their MegaMind and Higher Mind products, which also have a number of different ingredients but each have somewhat different emphasis. But Mental Edge should be the cornerstone if you also decide to use the other products. I am very pleased with Mental Edge. I researched Nootropics, determined that I didn't need a custom cocktail, opting instead for an existing mix. I found Focus Factor at Costco, and it was okay, but I continued to look for a reasonably priced alternative. I found Mental Edge had the key ingredients I wanted: DMAE, tyrosine and ginkgo, and B vitamins, even tho I take a multivitamin. I've been pleased with it. In fact, I take it every day, and when I don't, I feel more foggy and less focused. So for my needs, it works. A little about some key ingredients: DMAE is one of the older generation of nootropics made popular by books such as Life Extension and Smart Drugs & Nutrients. As a source of choline, it has a proven effect of increasing acetylcholine levels in the brain, which can generate significant improvements in memory storage and retrieval. It is also used in the construction and maintenance of cell membranes throughout all of the human body. Tyrosine is considered to be a non-essential amino acid, since the body is capable of producing this supplement on its own in small quantities from Phenylalanine. Using L-Tyrosine supplements has become popular in Nootropic communities as well as among individuals who want to lessen symptoms of stress and anxiety. Ginkgo Biloba helps to increase oxygen utilization and glucose metabolism in the brain. It may be missing some of the more exotic nootropics, but those should be measurably tested in each case and used with caution in any case. This is a good, well-rounded set of brain nutrients, which when combined with good habits in sleep, diet and exercise, will yield better results that a lot of esoteric nootropics. Some of the ingredients should lead not only to temporary clarity, but permanent gains in brain growth and overall health. Whether you just want a simple pill to help with mental clarity, or are looking to build a sophisticated brain regimen, this product makes a good base for either.

I have been taking mental edge for a while now and I can't see myself ever stopping. Mental Edge gives me a nice mental boost, especially when I am doing something active or having a conversation. I noticed when I stopped taking mental edge for 5 days I became less focused. I have not tried Source Naturals "higher mind" or "mega mind" but after doing research Mental Edge wins hands down IMO, both in results and price.Pros- I used to be tired and anti-social at the end of the day (I am a day person). But not any more since taking these pills.- These pills help me focus and multitask better at work.- I have ADD and these pills help me but only to a point. I still have trouble focusing sometimes (mostly when I'm not at work).Cons- You might come to depend on these pills in order to feel normal.- You will need to take 3 to 4 pills a day to see best results. I don't mind this at all though.- I would recommend NOT taking a Mental Edge pill at night as it may be difficult to sleep.- I noticed that if I don't get a decent nights rest these pills won't help much.
