Zone of the Enders HD Collection

Chances are, you don't care about ZoE 1. It was never that great, and all the attention went to The Second Runner, the game you're really paying for with this. And considering that it's $9.99 new right now, it's hard to beat that. I avoided this game after hearing that the frame rates were astonishingly bad. It took some time, but eventually Konami decided to make the game playable, though I'm reading people have gone up to patch 1.4 of the game. When I first booted the game (today), it was Patch 2.0. I have no idea what the difference is, but the good news is, ZoE 2 is playable, and it's one damned fine nostalgia trip to when games were, you know, fun. My own bias aside toward the new generation of games nowadays that actually convinced me to cancel my PS4 pre-order completely (upon realizing that new consoles with new features used to mean a LOT more before those features became annoying--namely, the "social" features. What a joy those are, since my "social features" on the PS3 consist of receiving nonstop hate-mail because I play a lot of fighting games online. I don't know what the heck else other people are getting out of it, but that's it for me.), this is a nice drive back to when games were, well, cooler. ZoE 2 was definitely something else, and it still is, and holds up very well to today. Though I realize the possibility is very slim (and these types of games went off the market for the simple reason that they don't sell as well as Call of Duty and the biggest mountain of DLC you'll ever see in your life. End of discussion on that, really.), I'd absolutely love to see some other more-obscure PS2 classics make their way at least into the PSN Store. I miss the .Hack series (both of them) and others of the like. But I'm going off-track. The point is that the game's playable again, and dirt-cheap, though I doubt for long. Might wanna snag this up quick, to my knowledge it's out-of-print by now. Cool stuff. Love that mech action.

I like giant robots. I like Gundam, Big O, Power Rangers, Voltron, Gurren Laggan and many others. So when I was told that back in the glorious age of the PlayStation 2 Hideo Kojima and his crew released a high speed giant robot series with an anime like flair and that it was being Re-released on the PS3 in HD, I was slightly interested. Finally getting my hands on this collection was a special moment for me. It's a great series, one of the best I have ever played. So please understand that when I say that I hate Zone of the Enders it is for a very specific reason that might not be a good reason at all : Leo Stenbuck. He is awful. His voice actor is awful. I hate him and everyone that defends him so much so that every good thing that happens to him and every victory he gains angers me. He almost ruins the game for me but not quite. What does ruin ZOE for me is 2nd Runner. There is a huge jump in quality between these games. Every thing about 2nd Runner is better. The lead character is better, the plot is better, the characters are better, the gameplay is better and the subtle cel-shading is gorgeous. 2nd Runner is more of the game I expected than the first so that first fight after completing ZOE was a nice surprise. My favorite difference is the grab mechanics. In ZOE you grab a guy and knock him back. In 2nd Runner you can use him as a weapon, a shield and throw him into his allies. ZOE is a decent game by itself but 2nd Runner is miles ahead of it. Totally recommend 2nd Runner but ZOE is a miss for me.

I have fond memories of playing Zone of the Enders with a close friend, we used to do speed runs through this and Resident Evil, years and years ago, and was looking forward playing again, unfortunately this title doesn't work on PS4. This is one of Kojima's best games, lots of bright colors, fast paced action, interesting characters and compelling storyline. If you still have the hardware, I can't recommend this one enough.

Good out of very, it is 2 games 1 one (not counting the demo but that game is generally cheap everywhere), however the first game does feel weird with how it ends. Works, came intact, and fun.

really good game, they fix the frame rates problems I already finish both zoe 1 and 2 with every single trophy ( 4 hours and something zoe 1 and like also the same time zoe 2) I had never try before zoe 1 but for me it seems to be a bit slow and also zoe 1 sometimes when your going to start a fight at the biginning of one area it froze like for 3 sec but just only once, it usually happens to me on factory 1 and town 1 I think, but it only happens when you enter the area and your going to start your first fight and then never happens again if you continue and is not a big deal everything else is perfect, by the way I been talking about the ps3 version,and on zoe 2 everything seems fine so for everyone that is afraid of buying this games because of the negative reviews and the frame rates problems dont be afraid, I recomend this games, they fix the problems and now you can enjoy it, and now with a better price. have fun now, you can now pick it up with your eyes closed dont be afraid is been patched.

Both these games look great, they really did a good job. I didn't notice any lag while playing. I have the very first PS3 model and the newer slim and didn't notice a difference. Playing it side by side with the PS2 version may show a difference in speed (you can check out YouTube videos) but this doesn't affect the game-play or overall experience. The Metal Gear demo is fun also. Also this title can be downloaded from the PSN. If you are experiencing a lot of lag issues, maybe that version will play better. EDIT: The game now has a 594mb patch that addresses the lag issues.

Overall ZOE1 just brings down what ZOE2 enhances, which is fine. Here's the review on both: . zone of enders 1 . + main mech looks cool ~ gamefeel is meh - irritating camera system - unlikable protagonist - tries to be evangelion so hard it's main character might as well be named shinji - story is typical space opera - takes like two hours to beat (and that was on a blind first playthrough); feels like 1/4th of the actual intended game; - sub weapons thrown at you like candy. most don't feel special while there are only 1 or 2 useful ones. - some enemy combinations are absurdly annoying (looking at you 3x shield mechs with halberds) - poorly illustrates objectives. you'll typically get one that says "to proceed, get driver X" where driver X has two hidden keys located in unmarked locations on the hub world. that means you have to go in and out of locations just to find where to go. - most movements and rotations are super slow. that's awful in a game where you're supposed to feel like a fast mech pilot. turning and camera panning feels like wading through a swamp. - froze my ps3 once with framerate drops at a few locations. . Zone of Enders 2 . + A shining example of what a sequel should be: keeping the same idea as the first but improving the quality + Story stabilizes and is fine + New protagonist is much more likable + Gamefeel is great and overall is much faster, the way ZOE felt like it was intended to be + Wraps up nicely much like what I thought ZOE was going to do + Sub weapons feel better with new universal sub weapon energy system. Find your favorite and fuss around. ~ Some segments of the game are pretty slow and feel like more work than fun. Thinking about the minefield area and the beam reactor section. ~ Some framerate drops but no freezes so seems pretty good overall Summary: ZOE1 is a short, hot mess that miraculously birthed a sequel that was better in every way. If you play ZOE1 and think, "I like what it tried to do but dang was it bad", then play ZOE2.

I purchased this game knowing it might have some problems. I received the game in short time. Installed the disk in my ps3 it prompted me for a update. It downloaded it quickly. The game booted up and has ran great. I never played the ps2 version so i have nothing to refer to for comparison. The game its self so far is great on the game play side. The story on the first Z.O.E. was definitely for a teenage kids and had very little depth. I have jest started Z.O.E. THE SECOND RUNNER. Gameplay wise it is a little better. The story so far is better as well. Although it is still for teens witch being a kojima game took me of guard. The only real complaint i have in the game is that there isn't a look inversion and the up and down are backwards from real flight controls on a plane. I find my self going the wrong way a lot. Besides that one thing it is a good game over all.
