Light flicks on as soon as the door opens and stays on the whole time. Light shuts off a few seconds after the door is shut.--What I like most is its simplicity, don't even have to mount it, just lay it on a surface and works just fine. If you do decide to mount it, the plate has three screws/drywall anchors that will attach to the wall. The light itself is detachable from the mounting plate.--Pro: Even though I am using only one of this product for right now, it's soft blue-white light fills the entire closet, even just laying on the top of the dryer.--Con: There doesn't seem to be a way to direct the light, meaning the bezel itself does not move, you can however mount the light to whatever surface is best for you and directly illuminate whatever area is needed.--Unknown: I don't know how long the three AAA batteries will last as my product gets used occasionally, once or twice a day and not much longer than 10 minutes at most.Overall I am impressed by how well this works and I will be buying several more over time for other small unlit rooms, cheaper than lamps and no cords to trip over. Only complaint I have is that, as good as the light itself is, it wouldn't hurt to be a bit brighter and have a moveable bezel.
