A deliciously funny, delectably shocking banquet of wild-but-true tales of life in the culinary trade from Chef Anthony Bourdain, laying out his more than a quarter-century of drugs, sex, and haute cuisine—now with all-new, never-before-published material. New York Chef Tony Bourdain gives away secrets of the trade in his wickedly funny, inspiring memoir/expose. Kitchen Confidential reveals what Bourdain calls "twenty-five years of sex, drugs, bad behavior and haute cuisine." Review: Not a 1st Edition. At all. - This was not a first edition, it was the insider edition of the book. It came out 12+ years after the first edition. Misleading/false listing. Review: Not consistent. Jumps around. - This book is a little tough to rate: Parts are 5's, parts are 3's, parts are 1's. Bourdain gets too into his debauched ways, and seems proud of his past, until he doesn't. He tells you how kitchen operations are very hectic, with unavoidable chaos, and then, in the last forty pages, or so, he let's you know that he does not know what he's talking about, and you shouldn't believe him, as he details how some big kitchens run very smoothly, with no noise, no bickering, etc. I've known nine suicides in my life. I know their patterns, how they talk about their lives before they act on ending them. Sadly, I recognize that pattern in Bourdain's musings, in this book. Very sad that he didn't get help. If you're a chef, as I am, you'll, mostly, like this book. You'll recognize things in it that you've gone through. You'll also call BS on parts of it, and you'll be right for doing so, as I see it. Recommended, with reservations, no pun intended.
