First entering RAF service in 1952, the De Havilland Vampire T.11 trainer was the final UK variant of Britain’s second operational jet fighter and the first advanced jet trainer to adopt a side-by-side seating configuration. Unusually, the forward section of the fuselage was constructed of plywood, adopting manufacturing techniques perfected on the famous wartime Mosquito.

A Quality model kit
This rendition of the Vampire is quite impressive. Even with a small parts count the painting and decals make for a superb addition to any collection. I opted for the Swedish version but am still impressed with the quality of the moldings and decals. This kit will be a nice build for just about anyone from novice to a seasoned model builder looking for a quick build. It is another fine Airfix hit.

Easy model
My 9 year old son enjoyed putting this kit together. Easy instructions. All the parts were there. Paint does not come with this kit.

Misleading amazon description
FYI this is not a quick build LEGO type model. It requires glue and paint. The other quick build air fix models are like legos. Otherwise fine but not as listed.

Pleasing model but tricky decals
This was a suitable kit to return to a boyhood hobby and get back into the basics again. The twin tail boom arrangement of the time is evocative and was particularly British. Airfix instructions are always clear. The build was straightforward, but the wing roots could have done with some filler while the tail boom assembly was tricky to fit into the wings. I used Humbrol tube cement and brushed Humbrol paint so it was a crude finish which shows. The extensive orange dayglo trainer strip transfers are problematic as identified by other modellers. These are brittle, curl up and break if the whole strip is not immersed in the water immediately and held down. A pity there is no advice about this. The large leading edge strips are tricky to apply and position without further damage. Those on the booms don't conform to the tight curves well with Decalfix, but Micro Sol came to the rescue. This can all be mastered but they stand out rather too much and detract from the rest of the model. I'd avoid this scheme on any other Airfix kits. With 100 decals including numerous stencils you'll have an absorbing time finishing off this plane. For my next models I'm choosing Tamiya cements and Vallejo paints for a cleaner finish.

There are quite a lot of decals!
Lovely kit, really enjoyed building and painting it and very pleased with how it turned out. It fits together well with a minimum of filling, mainly around the wing-roots and tail-booms. The instructions tell you to fit the undercarriage before you attach the booms to the wings but I left them off until very much later as, being rather clumsy, I find the less protrusions there are as I'm sanding and painting the better. This meant I had to fiddle around attaching them later in the day and actually cut-through the supporting-strut in order to force them into place but aided by some super-glue this was not a problem. I decided to used the crew-figures which are fairly good and painted up well with white "Bone-domes" and gloss-black visors, but forgot to check their fit on the seats first and ended up chopping and sanding their bottoms down to fit. The were still too high actually, and their heads are a tight fit against the canopy! Incidentally, I cut one of their heads off and re-attached it turned to the right, looking out along with wing, it looks really good! I managed to get all of the main decals on reasonably well though I did make a few errors in positioning and should have studied the illustrations and guide a little more closely. Micro-Sol and Set are definitely required.I hand=painted it with a 50/50 mix of Vallejo Steel and Aluminium finished off with a black oil-wash to pick up the panel-lines and find detail etc.

Great product for any Airfix Plane enthusiasts
great product and great detail put in by airfix. 2 style variant option giving you the choice to recreate a scene from the 2 options or even go off topic and design your own Vampire.

When finished looks good but transfers will not bend over thin tail spars
Good model but transfers are too thick and ridget to bend over the tail sparse from the wing, but in saying that the transfers make the model after painting.

Fiddly kit, decals iffy.
The problem with this particular model kit is the decals. The long thin ones curl the wrong way when applies, i ended up gluing them on.
