As good as it gets for beginner French pastry!
This is definitely a good cook book to wade into the waters of French pastry. I’ve flipped through it so many times but never started anything because it does feel a bit intimidating for non-skilled bakers. But last night I finally went for it and attempted the chocolate torte and wow it was incredible. I really appreciate all the pictures and descriptions. One sort of annoying thing is the amount of cooking tins and what not that you need. All the recipes are different sizes ramekins, cake pans, baking sheets, piping bags, etc etc. so if I want to make something I have to like get on Amazon to find a specific sizes ramekin for a specific tart because I can’t even find them at Target or somewhere generic like that. It is French pastry though it isn’t you know... American pies and cookies. So a certain level of difficulty and specificity is inherent to the recipes. Just be aware going in but it’s definitely a good cook book!

Excellent for beginners!
I love this book so much and use about once a week. This would have my 5 star vote if the recipe portions were more accurate. The tarte aux pommes calls for like 4-5 apples and I only ever use 1-1.5 for the tart! I recommend this book to anyone who wants to give french pastries a try.

Become a better baker with this Pastry book!
This is so well written. While I’m a pretty good baker, pastry has always been a little intimidating for me. But I jumped straight into the deep end and made Kouign Amman. They can out beautifully and the direction provided by Betty are so straightforward and clear. She helps you understand more than the how and gets into the why, which helps me be a better baker!

Great present for an aspiring baker
I purchased this as a gift for my cousin who loves to bake. He was thrilled! And I'm excited to soon be sampling whatever he makes!
