Challenging, but worth it
For a beginner, this is a great break from using standard method books like Alfred that freeze students into one hand position before moving into another one and then freezing them there and then moving onto the next. Instead, students are learning to move around the keyboard more like they will in actual play. It's more challenging for a beginner, but will be worth it in the long fun. Most students will probably use this in conjunction with a more traditional method book, but may find themselves gravitating to this over time. The songs are fun, too. Honestly, how long can beginners continue to be afflicted with nothing but pieces like London Bridge?

... were unenthusiastic about most of the pieces or even bored. Compared to Masterworks Classics
Most students were unenthusiastic about most of the pieces or even bored. Compared to Masterworks Classics, this falls short. True, they are different types of music (this is mostly modern pieces), but I feel its important for a student to be excited about what they are playing. Also, I was very disappointed to find out that the student workbook that used to accompany the repertoire book in this series has been discontinued. I liked how the workbook focused on each piece played in the repertoire book and analyzed each song. Now that this is gone, I think the only reason I could see myself using this is for students whose goal is to take the tests. Other than that, I would say go with the Masterworks Classics series. If modern pieces are what you are after, Modern Masterworks is a great book too.

My seven-year old prefers this book over all others.
My seven-year old prefers this book over all others. The songs have interesting names, themes and techniques. She is much more willing to practice "Rainbow Fish" than anything else, which is saying a lot!
