...thanks to pioneers such as DJ Disco Wiz who reminds the masses and speaks for the few who educate Hip Hop Culture.Hip Hop culture goes unappreciated. Corporations have buried the pioneers because the pioneers show that they did it without the industry. His stories are valuable now and there will come a day when that generation won't be here to speak on the movement that brought Hip Hop about. I want my kids to have books like these so it can dismiss any lie the media puts out there. So my support is my way of being gracious.As a kid in the BX in the early part of the 80's, what I thought was playing outside was later called Hip Hop. It's so important for those who weren't there to see what it is and not what has been marketed. Also as a Latino I think this is a great elixir for the identity problem many Puerto Ricans have in this country. Our contributions go ignored a lot and this brings a sense of pride for the people.I appreciate the fact DJ Disco Wiz took time out to sit down and share the majesty that is engraved in his memories.

I must say that this book is a must read. I am not a reader by nature and I have to make myself read books for school but it was different with this book. I was given a chapter to read for my music empowerment class and I was hooked after I was done and I wanted to continue reading it so I went ahead and bought it and made it a final project for class.I enjoyed reading the book from start to finish. This is the first book that I read in its entirety in a very long time. I could not put it down and read it everywhere. I thoroughly enjoyed the rawness of DJ Disco Wiz and how his life was told without holding back. I can picture the different scenes through out the book coming to life.If you love hip hop or are just interested to learn about the pioneers and how the movement was started, please buy this book. This book was recommend to me in passing and I bought it as an add-on to an Amazon order (to get my free shipping). Being sick with the flu SUCKS, but it gives you time to catch up on reading and things. So I picked up this book today and read it in one sitting which is very, very, very rare for me (I'm a slow reader who loses interest easily). It was not what I expected...that is to say another book about how hip-hop & DJing started back in the day. Instead I was blown away and engulfed in the realness of this man's (this Hip-Hop Legend's) life story. It's not one of glamor and fame, but one of a hard fought life with lots of mistakes, struggles and hardships. I'm not sure I would put it on the level of Iceburg Slim's life story (PIMP), but it's the closest book I've read that truly captured the raw emotions of each incident as Iceburg did in his book. Highly recommend picking up a copy.

The story of Disco Wiz is one that can serve as inspiration and motivation to anyone. While it is rooted in the hip hop he so loves, it is much more than that. It is about how we all have the ability to triumph over seemingly insurmountable odds and how we can always learn. It is also about knowledge (of self) and respect, for oneself and for those around us. While heavy in content, it is written in a way that is easy to read. The language and structure allows the true story to flow and the nuances to stand out. I am the better for having read this book and indebted to DJ Disco Wiz for sharing his story. I do hope that the younger ones coming into hip hop interact with stories such as these and look to honour the foundation that was laid for them

I was able to picture areas I'm a female, who visited the neighborhoods and knew lingo, but never was in jail. There were a certain repect during that time period, that died as time went by.

I read an amazing book. "IT'S JUST BEGUN" was the best book i read in a long time that had some of my own heritage and roots in it, being born in the bronx. I recommended this book to friends and family. I think DJ Whiz should make the first latino movie based on his book "ITS JUST BEGUN". His journey as the first latino dj in hip hop was an amazing adventure that became a puppet, a poet, a pawn and a king of the latino hip hop world.

I enjoyed the hell outta this book. The funny thing I got it the day before his born day happy birthday dj wiz...You know in life it is what it is and how you make it. so you gotta go thur so many things and find out where your at..glad you found yourself keep on rockin..

I was drawn to this book initially through my interest in the roots of hip hop culture but this book delivers much more than a history lesson.Painting an extremely vivid picture of Bronx street life during the 1970's and the background to where the culture was born.DJ Disco Wizs story is one of triumph over adversity told with brutal honesty throughout, a moving and inspiring read!
