Firestone 2543 Air-Rite Xtreme Duty Air Control System

This system installed and worked just as described. I didn't get the separate tank/compressor bracket. But that wasn't a problem. The instructions were good and there was plenty of air line length. It didn't take long, a couple hours, to install. I'd characterize myself as a "skilled amateur" mechanic. I wired the compressor to one of the up-fitter switches in the cab to make powering it easy. The fuse on the up-fitter switch is less than what came with the controller but it hasn't been a problem. Now I can turn the whole system on and off whenever I want to. I mounted the gauge and pressure controller under the steering wheel offset a bit to the right so I can see and adjust the air bag pressure while driving.I put the quick-connect on the back bumper and have used it to run a pneumatic bottle jack and an impact wrench to change trailer tires. That pushes the system to the limit, but I was able to break 8 lug nuts loose before depleting the pressure in the air tank. Then I finished spinning the nuts off with a 4-way. It was fully recharged by the time I was ready to tighten the lug nuts on the spare tire. If you want to air a large tire up, make sure you have an inflator that locks on to the tire valve stem because it will take a while. This system is better at topping off tire pressure than completely inflating a tire with very low or no pressure. Also, make sure your vehicle engine is running when the air compressor is running; the compressor will run faster.Make sure you have a sharp drill bit when drilling through the vehicle frame rail to mount the compressor and tank.

I chose the mechanical analog because so many electric gauges fail prematurely. This thing just works and I feel it will continue to do so.
