They are nice and solid, feel very well put together, and the retracting cord & the mechanism are super strong. I absolutely love that it has both a carabiner-type clip and a regular clip on the back for like a shirt pocket or lapel. Not to mention, the locking pouch for the actual badge itself completely seals and that whole entire part is water proof - which is GREAT because I bought these for my friends and I to put our (cardboard) chairlift passes in it. The only minor concern is that the retracting mechanism is so strong, that if you let it whip back into place after pulling it out, it will split the plastic piece apart at the button where it attaches to the badge holder. Not a big enough deal to me to subtract a star, but I will probably use the key ring part on the badge holder just in case.
