Book is essentially new for a much cheaper price

I loved this book to study for my C-EFM. As a matter of fact, I felt like the test was easy and didn’t want to tell anyone because I thought it was like the NCLEX, where if it’s easy you fail. I think I felt it was easy because of how well and in depth this book is.

This book had a great review on the pathophysiology of the fetus. I used this book to study for my C-EFM nursing certification and passed on the first try!

Very informative and helpful for learning this topic. A must have resource for anyone caring for OB patients!

This book was left outside my house in a cardboard wrapper, in the driving rain. Meanwhile Amazon says it was “handed off directly.” Not exactly, Amazon.The book itself has tons of s t r i p s, which is awesome. Of concern, though, is the use of some outdated terminology. Take care to review it thoroughly before sharing content with learners.

Easy read and great help for me to work wy

I purchased this text to prepare myself for the Certification in Electronic Fetal Monitoring examination (C-EFM). Surprisingly, the National Certification Corporation (NCC) suggests this text on their website. The layout of content is questionable, at best. You jump from concept to concept and refer back to previous concepts often. For example, chemoreceptor and baroreceptors have two measly paragraphs dedicated to them before jutting straight into the fetal CNS. No talk about how they interrelate. No discussion of hormones. No talk of how these compensatory mechanisms progress during specific types of decelerations. In fact, decelerations are not even mentioned until Chapter 3. Sure, this book never claimed to be fetal pathophysiology. But I consider the synergistic relationship of these components important.As a nurse educator, I am having a very difficult time with these poorly written end-of-chapter questions. Cognitively, these are lower-level questions such as memorization and recall. One example is a question asking you to recall the percentage of correlation between fetal acidemia and minimal variability & decelerations. As far as Bloom's taxonomy, these are remember/understand level (questions you would find on a first-year pre-licensure nursing class exam). These questions do not require you to think critically and apply the knowledge you learned throughout the chapter.Every. single. stem. ends with a colon, prompting you to finish the sentence. But not all of the alternatives would make sense grammatically if you plugged it in. Example stem: "Interventions to improve fetal oxygenation with fluid bolus, maternal lateral position, and oxygen administrations should be performed:" and one of the options is "oxygen is last."Really?? These interventions should be performed oxygen is last????? That is nonsense! Do better. These authors may be content experts but they should have consulted an educator to ensure the end-of-chapter questions (which were a huge advertisement of this edition) were quality.I maintain three stars because at an affordable price (60 U.S. dollars), I have learned a lot from this book. I am just frustrated with the layout and quality of questions. If you are preparing for the NCC C-EFM exam, DO NOT rely on this text alone. Rather, consider this supplementary. If you are purchasing solely for practice questions, heed to my warning.
