The Backgammon Book

I feel it has already improved my game. The authors give good reasons about the moves they recommend in different situations and then you can apply the same thinking to your own moves. There's interesting sections on the history of the game and on sections. There is even a section on basics so the book can also give value to a total beginner. One thing - the book is old, and is black and white and has no pretty pictures - only very basic - but clear - board drawings. This doesn't upset me at all, as in fact it means no distractions from the text. If you are serious about your Backgammon, I can only say it is essential reading and as you will know it was written by authorities unquestioned in international modern backgammon.

Had not played back gammon for a long time and had added it as an'app' to my ipad. As a result of reading the book, both my wife and I have renewed our appreciation of the game, by virtue of the excellant information provided. Great - would highly recomend this book to anyone - like us - taking up the game, as a refresher or for anyone else, as a starter.

Best backgammon book I've read.

Knowing nothing about the game, I bought this book, along with a backgammon set, in 1980! I used it to learn and master the game and, although I say it myself, I am now a fairly accomplished player. Despite its lack of funky diagrams (those in the book are dated but very clear), the text is so helpful to both beginners and intermediate players. That said, there is no substitute for playing the game. Read the book, learn the advice and you will be a much better player for it. You only have to research the credibility of the authors to appreciate that the words in the book can only improve your game. PS, I still find myself occasionally referring to it after any lengthy layoffs from playing. Knowledge is power!

Je ne lui connais pas de traduction.C'est un classique du backgammon qui reprend les fondamentaux et explique les stratégies, même les plus complexes, avec beaucoup de pédagogie. Le niveau d'anglais est très accessible.A avoir dans toute bibliothèque quand on est un joueur sérieux de backgammon (ou qu'on souhaite le devenir) et qu'on maîtrise un tant soit peu la langue de Shakespeare.

A great companion for learning backgammon, a real "brain game". It has almost too much detail & can be difficult to follow.

Just like plucking the book off the shelf at the local library! This book is in very good condition and I feel that I got great value for my money. I would purchase from this seller again.

Book is pretty good so far. Has nice clear illustrations. Plenty of discussion so far about what to do with all possible opening moves. The next section is responses to those opening moves, which I'm just now starting.

Oswald Jacoby - what else is there to say. A classic book on a classic game. A must for any gaming library. Bought used - condition as described, prompt ship, well packaged.

and he know how to teach. True, other masters may not agree with all his "moves", but you can't go wrong if you follow his advice.

Good information but not a kid's book.

The book was in excellent shape. I bought two of these for Christmas to go with the backgammon sets I gave them. Still the best backgammon book!

Used to own this book years ago. I am glad I was able to find another. It was delivered quickly and in good shape.

The probability section assumes a good knowledge of math/statistics, which if you don't have, won't make much sense.
