ABBEY ROAD

Giles Martin Version
It was originally a greatly mastered album. Well, Giles Martin adds his won touch in remastering/remixing, and some subtle frequencies can also be heard. Good one to collect.

An all-time favourite
I had missed out buying this album earlier. Now that I have a new USB-powered turntable, I just had to pick it up. The songs are all rock classics and need no extra praises. The record was spotless and absolutely brand new and sealed.

"The Album"
listening to something like this on the format that it was originally meant to be listened,'vinyl' that is, this is just great! arguably the 'Album' of the century and that too of one of the greatest bands of all time. the remastered versions are just fantastic. once more these classy albums are available . Kudos to amazon for roping in all the sellers who deals in vinyl when vinyl is making a comeback that too in India, feels wonderful! as a Vinyl lover do look forward to regularly update myself on the releases and deal in some more purchases in the future. 'Spin On'!

You Never Give Me Your Money....Really?
So after all the hype it's finally here. And hype is the best word for it. No question the re-mastering of the original album is superb and adds a lustre and sharpness to everything. A job well done. It's the rest of the package that I have a problem with. The two "sessions" cd's are a bit of a misnomer. To claim a Paul McCartney home demo of "Goodbye" is an "Abbey Road" session is stretching things a bit. As for "Come And Get It", wasn't that released on "Anthology 3"? "The Ballad Of John And Yoko" was recorded as a stand alone single and nothing at all to do with "Abbey Road" "Old Brown Shoe" is a bit tenuous as well. What remains could fit easily on one cd. "Anthology 3" has demo/out-take versions of 10 tracks that appear on the sessions cd's. As most of these are different takes why not re-master and include them in this package. The blue-ray disc is really just fluff and should be released as a stand alone item. Dolby Atmos is a cinema sound system and as far away from true stereo as you can get..So what you are getting for your £80 is a remix of the original album, two cd's that could be condensed into one. Material already released and material irrelevant to the main album. And a Blue Ray that most people will rarely use. As for the book, its very good but not really worth the asking price. Compared to the two previous Beatle box sets this is a let down and vastly overpriced.

HERE COMES THE BEATLES GROOVING UP SLOWLY.
As with Pepper and the White album Giles has done justice to the finest musical combo that ever existed. Stand out track is Here Comes the Sun for the clarity of acoustic guitar. Subtle panning on Sun King. Ringo's The End solo has finally got the depth of sound it deserves. If like me you're in your 60s listen to this masterpiece through headphones on your own. It's a personal private experience between you and a dear old friend. Possibly the best friends you ever had.

ANOTHER GREAT BEATLES REMIX...
However eager I was to get my hands on this 50th anniversary edition of ABBEY ROAD, I was nevertheless a little sceptical about quite how Giles Martin and his team could improve upon what in my humble opinion was a stunning mix in the first place. True, the stereo version of SGT. PEPPER did need an overhaul and the results were amazing. But ABBEY ROAD? Could any improvement be made to that luxuriant, floaty stereo polish? Well, the answer is - yes!Once again, Giles Martin and co. have produced another powerful, spacious-sounding make-over and I think that ABBEY ROAD now sounds better than ever. It's especially pleasing that George Martin's orchestrations have been brought more to the fore. This is particularly true of 'Something', where it could be argued that Martin's arrangement had been somewhat buried on the original mix. 'Come Together' still bumps and grinds but the sound has been opened out, with a little more electric piano audible in places. Meanwhile, the famous medley sounds even more impressive, from the gently shifting stereo of 'Sun King' through to the heart-string-tugging 'Golden Slumbers' and the full-on guitar duel of 'The End'. Importantly, however, ABBEY ROAD retains its trademark warmth and gloss, which the booklet points out influenced the way in which many albums would be recorded over the next two decades. The bonus disc is also a pleasure. We get alternate takes of every track on the album running in sequence, with 'I Want You (She's So Heavy)' being particularly interesting here, displaying some fiery keyboard playing from Billy Preston which was obscured beneath white noise on the original mix. To add some levity and a human touch to the proceedings, there is also some enlightening studio banter thrown in for good measure. We all know how acrimonious The Beatles' break-up was, but throughout this they do actually sound like they were enjoying themselves when making this album. I suppose it was the effect of leaving their personal squabbles at the studio door, focusing on the job in hand and being collectively determined to make a great album - which is exactly what they achieved. The packaging for this two-disc edition of ABBEY ROAD complements that used for the equivalent SGT. PEPPER reissue, utilising an outer card slipcase containing a gatefold inner sleeve for the CDs and a nicely presented booklet. In common with the SGT. PEPPER anniversary edition, I think that they have reproduced the ABBEY ROAD artwork to a better standard than on the equivalent CD from the remasters boxed set, where the album's colouration looked rather pale and flat. Here, the iconic ABBEY ROAD front cover once again has a deeper-blue sky and there is once more that slight yellowish hue to The Beatles' faces, much like on the original LP cover and the vinyl reissue from a few years ago (it's a photograph which captures a beautiful English summer's day frozen in what was perhaps a more innocent time). The booklet contains annotation from both Paul McCartney and Giles Martin, together with a guide to the alternate takes and an impressive selection of in-the-studio studies of the band at work snapped by the late Linda McCartney.ABBEY ROAD (along with SGT. PEPPER) is my favourite Beatles album and this 50th anniversary revamp has really done the Fab Four's last hurrah justice. Excellent work.

A huge disappointment after Giles Martin's remixes of Sgt Pepper and the White Album
I found the Giles Martin remixes of Sgt Pepper and the White Album, both originally four-track recordings, revelatory for the obscured details they revealed - and the extra bass heft. Abbey Road was recorded on eight track and so there was less aural archaeology for Martin to reveal. The only one, and not a pleasant one, is the screeching tone of the violins above the stave in Something, otherwise there's simply nothing new here. Worse still the bass response has gone (listen to the opening bars of Come Together) and the dynamics compressed as if this were a mix specially for digital downloading. If you have the Beatles in Stereo box set you have the best available Abbey Road remastering. Stick with it. I'm returning this disc to Amazon for a refund.

Help... my Blu-ray Disc is having a hard days night... but now all you need is love.
Received the super deluxe box set today. Having listened to the remixes via Tital Masters made a beeline to the Blu-ray Disc for the 5.1 mix. My Panasonic Blu-ray player wouldn’t play it just displaying a “Copyright Violation” message. Tried my Sony Blu-ray player... nothing, had a job ejecting it too. Back to the Panasonic, checked for updates.... no luck, changed the leads... no luck. Is the Blu-ray Disc faulty? Last option... return it for a replacement. Very disappointed. With all the publicity in the press, music mags and the BBC’s pop up Beatle station was looking forward to this release. Has anyone else had problems, I know of one. As the box set was shrink wrapped no fault lies with Amazon.Updated 3/10/2019: I received my replacement boxed set today and immediately tried the Blu-ray. To my delight it worked in my main Panasonic player. It appears that there is a rogue batch of Blu-ray Discs. Deleted one star due to the poor quality control, you will never get a 100% problem free product, but judging by the number of complaints this problem is too high.Five ***** stars for Amazon for their prompt service in sorting out this problem.
