WaterCop ZWACT ZWave Water Shut Off Valve Actuator The WaterCop ZWave water shut off valve actuator works with ZWave smart home systems, smart hubs and select security systems like alarm.com to enable local and remote control of the water supply. The water valve can be opened or closed using your smart hub's app. Better yet, add ZWave water sensors and automatically shut off the water supply when a water leak is detected. Common sources of water leaks and flooding are hot water tanks, toilets, washing machines, dish washers and water dispensers. The WaterCop ZWave actuator houses the ZWave electronics, and requires your choice of WaterCop valves We are aware of several sellers of low cost ZWACT actuators at unbelievable prices. Those cheap versions are old clearance stock without warranty and with old firmware that is not compatible with newer automation systems or alarm.com systeM.

WaterCop tied in nicely using Z-Wave to add water damage protection to my Abode Security System
I searched high and low for a simple way to automatically turn of the water supply to our home if one of our Abode Security System's water sensor detected a leak. This unit was the answer and very reasonably priced ($119.23 as of April 2019). It uses Z-Wave over WiFi which appears to be more popular these days. The plumbing was simple but I'd suggest having a plumber or someone who is capable of cutting and joining pipe do the job. As for the controls, it was almost too easy. I opened up my Abode "dashboard", clicked on add device, then selected other devices and pushed the mode button on the WaterCop for pairing. Abode sees it as a switch. I was then able to set up a simple automation in 30 seconds which closes the water valve automatically if a leak detection is triggered. It is comforting to know that we have one less thing to worry about when we are away from home for any extended period (or any period).

Defective Merchandise
This device failed after 3 months and after reaching out to the manufacture this is exactly their email back to me.I believe your WaterCop Z-Wave actuator is from 2013 and was originally purchased by AT&T for their automation platform. When it failed, they unloaded their overstock without offering us to take it back so we’re now trying to help people like you.If this is how Amazon does business I'd be more careful about the merchandise you purchase. Do a little more research. As the old saying goes if it's too good to be true then there must be something wrong. The Water Cop z-wave valve actually retails for $399. I didn't know that at the time.

There appears to be a software issue
I purchased the unit in August of 2018. Twice within the last two months, the valve has failed to act as it should. About 6 weeks ago my wash was leaking water. The shutoff worked semi-fine. The water shut off but kept reporting that the valve was open when it was closed. I troubleshooted the issue and found my using my zwave sniffer that the valve was reporting open when it was in reality closed. I powered off the unit and powered it back on. It then began to report the correct status. Today I had the dishwasher drail pipe leak this time the unit did not shut off. Using my zwave sniffer I could see the messages being sent but the unit failed to respond. It did not even ack the message. I again cycle power the unit and it began working again.

Dismally Useless Electronic ZWave Valve
This is clearly a hit or miss product. It can’t get connected to the ZWave network when it’s more than 30ft away from the ZWave hub itself. It won’t connect to a ZWave repeater connected to the ZWave hub either. So I’m left with an electronic valve that literally behaves just like a manual valve.Since I already spent $425 for Plumber to install an electronic valve plus $15,000 in water damage after the first Wi-Fi water valve’s plumbing failed miserably, I could not spend anymore money to get this uninstalled. The Plumber installed this WaterCop as replacement to the damaged Wi-Fi valve, for free. It was the coupling pipe that split end-to-end.I had to buy Another ZWave retro-fit valve controller to install over the manual valve to automate and remote control it. The retrofit non-plumbed ZWave valve connects to my ZWave network readily. This WaterCop valve is a total waste of money and is totally useless. So don’t waste your money and time on this one. You will never know what you are buying: working or non-working valve controller.
