Liked it so much the first time, I bought another one
We got our first Secura kettle 6 years ago, and it has held up wonderfully. I descale it with vinegar periodically and it still works great. But the lid was starting to get a bit sketchy and I wanted a backup for when the first one poops out, so I bought another of the same thing. The only thing that appears to have changed is the cord, to a very thick 3 prong grounded plug, and my only complaint/concern is that the cord & plug themselves get fairly hot with use. This seems strange and maybe not right to me, but it still boiled water just fine, and we're always nearby when we're using it, so if it catches fire, we can contain it quickly! (hopefully it doesn't come to that though) And if it does decide to misbehave, hopefully it does it within the 2 year manufacturer warranty period. Overall, we've been happy enough with this kettle to buy the second one before the first one boils it's last batch.

Excellent Stainless Steel Electric Water Kettle
This is a review for Secura SWK-1701DB 1.8 Quart Stainless Steel Double Wall Electric Water Kettle. This is probably the best Electric Kettle that we've owned. This review is being provided after 6 months of every day usage (about 2-3 times per day) of this kettle. We live in a sea-level area (from the perspective of water boiling temperature) and have hard water. So yes, there is mineral build-up on the bottom of the kettle - but this is to be expected. Provided instructions give directions on how to remove this, but the deposits (after 6 months of use) are not to the level that we've had to descale it yet.PROS:- One of the most important positives is that we've had ZERO rust anywhere on the surface (internal or external). I've seen pictures provided by other reviewers of the rust - we have not (yet) experienced any of it.- No direct contact of water or steam with plastic. Internals and how they are finished and connect with external plastic shell are all stainless steel. No plastic or rubber switches or seals of any kind in contact with water/steam.- So far, plastic toggle on the handle provides for smooth and convenient operation/opening of the top lid and fairly sufficient enough opening to fill it with water.- Base sits flat on the surface of the counter and does not wiggle. Kettle fits well on the base and does not wiggle. If base/kettle is bumped a little, it will not easily topple over.- Thermally it is well made and in most of the places, even when water is at full boil, you will not burn your hands by touching the outside. Exception to this is the top lid (which makes sense) and inside of the handle that is closest to the top. So you just have to hold the handle a bit lower than the top bend (it is hot, but not to the point of instant burn).- Handle is one solid piece. Overall diameter of the handle is fairly thick, but comfortable fit for an average hand (male or female). For an individual with small hand, the handle might feel a bit thick.- Balances well when full of water while pouring. Spout is well made - pouring is controlled and water does not spill when pouring.- Finish/Colors are bright and well made (it's plastic and is not painted - so this will not fade). Easy to wipe and does not leave fingerprints (maybe this is a bit different on darker colors).- Water retains temperature for significant amount of time (of course depends on your temperature preference). But after 30 minutes of full boil, water is still significantly warm.- Automatic shut-off switch works well - does not seem it will break off easily and shuts-off well every single time (again, 6 months daily usage)CONS:- Very loud when gets close to full boil- Lot's of steam coming from the spout during boiling. You should pay attention where this kettle is placed during operation. It should not be placed under counters (of any material) or under hanging plants. Basically you want lot's of air around and on top for steam to dissipate. Definitely ensure children do not have access to this appliance.- No window to see water level. This is fine, since when such a feature is present, it usually means there is plastic inside- No temperature control: it's either on or off.

Almost perfect. The plastic coating on outside smells.
I've now been using this kettle for almost a month. The inside of the kettle is perfect - all stainless steel and no smell. However, the white coating on the outside still is giving off a chemical smell. It's getting better, but it's still there. It does not affect the water in the kettle at all.I thought I might be bothered by not having an outside indicator of the water level, but don't mind this at all. The markings inside are easy to read as you fill the kettle. However, the markings are only 1/2 liter, 1 liter and 1.7 liter. I wish it also had 1, 2, 3, 4 ,5, 6 cups markings. My French Press takes 1 liter, so for making coffee the markings aren't such a problem, but the cup markings would be great when I'm boiling water for a cup of tea.Next, when the water comes to a boil, the kettle simply shuts off and the lit on/off button turns off. You either need to watch for the light to go off or listen carefully to the sound of the water coming to a boil. I wish the kettle beeped or had some auditory method of letting you know when your water was boiled.Lastly, the spout of the kettle is not perfect. Water tends to flow over the sides of the spout if you pour too quickly. Be careful.Minor points overall. I'm pleased to have a kettle with an all stainless interior that doesn't cost over $100.

Nearly 4 years later, I still love this kettle
I wish everything worked as well as this kettle.I use this kettle several times a day, every day, and have for almost 4 years now. It holds a lot of water, heats quickly, is easy to pour -- and easy to clean because of the wide opening. And it looks absolutely fabulous sitting on my counter. I've been at friends' homes a few times this week and used their electric kettles, and was reminded how much I love this one. The others (all fairly new stainless steel with extra features mine doesn't have) felt oddly off-balance and awkward, were messy to pour from, and had narrow top openings that would make them difficult to clean. Using other kettles always makes me appreciate my Secura. It's just about perfect.Occasional cleaning with vinegar and water, as suggested in the product info, works great to keep the mineral deposits away. I have very hard well water, so this is an important -- but simple -- maintenance step. The kettle's interior still looks just fine.Other reviews have mentioned that it's noisy. Yes, you can hear the water boiling. (And you can then hear when it's done.) :)
