Ten Essential Skills for Electrical Engineers (IEEE Press) 1st Edition

Most helpful. Mr. Dorr presents a concise and informative read from which I've already learned a few things. The chapter on statistics for manufacturability was a real eye-opener. Also, the Matlab and C code snippets provide a nice base for modification and building a library of one's own. Helps you go from the theoretical to actual application. Another cool thing about the book is that it ties many unique areas together and gets you to think of those subjects as one coherent body of knowledge. Big Thumbs Up!

As an electrical engineer who has been in the workforce for a few years but still wants to keep their skills up to date, this book appealed to me.This is a solid "refresher" reference, and even includes a few problems that you can work through, like a textbook. It covers a lot of practical knowledge that 5 years of EE studies touched on briefly.My only minor complaint is that while the answers are in the back, the author should have included a work-through or solution guide. I admit to making the infrequent mathematical error here or there, so it would be nice to not have to waste time working through the problem all over again to figure out where I went wrong.

Too often academia tends to focus on providing students a sound theoretical background in engineering disciplines and neglects to prime them on how to apply what they have learned to a) get a job and b) thrive and keep it. The book represents a valiant effort by the author to bridge the gap. I especially appreciate the final chapter which amongst many things stresses the need to develop the necessary interpersonal skills desired by all employers. Recent grads take note!

As an employer and EE, I found Mr. Dorr’s book to be extremely useful. From the employer side, the book is a great summary of what my engineers should know. My engineers have had to deal with the exact real world examples he solves with proper engineering logic. As an EE I found the book to be an excellent review and extension of what I should know! The book is completely up to date in the extremely powerful techniques of signal processing.

This is a great review, and the first half is great. The second half isn't quite as well put-together: definitely five stars. The second half is less coherent, but still good. I'd give chapters 7~9 3 stars: the problem sets are a bit more half-baked, and the chapters themselves aren't the strongest. However, I still like the book, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quick brush-up on their EE fundamentals. Chapter 10, on career development, is definitely spot-on from my time as a software engineer. (Also, fair warning: there's an erratum or two in the problem set answers, though I forget where offhand. Yes, I did work literally every problem in the book…)

Good so far. Written with the assumption those reading it will have their bachelor's already...but even with just the associates so far the material is still very familiar to me.

Great resource to supplement an engineer in school, recent grad, or even as review for an experienced engineer!

I bought this for my son who graduated in May, he used it the day he got it at his job. He regularly references this book.
