I learned many additional things
The book starts with the alphabet, the sounds of Portuguese, and how you pronounce the vowels and consonants with listening practice. Followed by: Beginning a conversation:Greeting, Talking on the phone, Quick introductions, Saying Goodbye, which is quite easy to learn etc Verbs are very important when you want to speak a language It is nice to know that the conjugation of the regular verbs is quite easy. I focussed on learning just 2 verb tenses in the beginning, The Present Tense and the Preferite Tense, which is a past tense. The conjugation of the irregular verbs is ofcourse not so easy, but life is also not always easy. You have to rehearse, rehearse, rehearse, but that is no problem if you like a language I also watched and listened to brazilian language irregular verbs on youtube. It helped me to relax and learn while watching nice and happy Brazilians explaining the conjugation of these verbs to me. There are a lot of additional Tenses in Brazilian Portuguese beside the Present Tense and the Preferite. I took a look at the additional Tenses to get an idea, but I plan to learn some of them better when I read the book a second time. Do I have critique? I would have liked VERB CHARTS at the end of the Book for review I would have liked more excercises. There is an additional workbook, but I am not going to buy it. I think however that this Book is good value for money. I also like the CD.The female speaker has a nice voice and accent. I did one course of Brazilian Portuguese before, but I lost the books( Living Language Brazilian Portuguese). This is a very good course, with 3 books and 9 CDs,more exercises and also VERB CHARTs,maybe I buy it again, but I still learned many additional things with "Everything Learning Brazilian Portuguese Book".

Wonderful explanations!
This is a very effective introduction to Brazilian Portuguese. I feel like I should write the author a thank you note. I am using several resources to learn Brazilian Portuguese, including this book, duolingo.com (free!), Behind the Wheel CDs (good!), and Rosetta Stone (expensive, but it gives feedback on your pronunciation). This book is the BEST at explaining what is different about Portuguese. For example, there are two forms of the verb "to be". As another example, possessives 'depend on the thing "owned", not the person that "owns" it'. It takes me forever to figure these types of things out from examples. Instead, I read this book and have the basics clearly in mind. It has exercises with answers in the back, a handy glossary of common words, and a CD too. If you are a beginner learning Brazilian Portuguese, I think you will like this book very much.

Brazilian Portugese made fun
Since Brazilian Portugese is one of the two major spoken languages in the southern hemisphere the purchase of the text was a no brainer for me. Having studied Spanish in high school and thru self-study with the aid of such super products as the Penton Overseas products I decided to look into learning some Brazilian. Portugese. This language is one of the Romance languages along with Spanish, French, Italian, and Romanian and many of the words are very similar to either Spanish or Italian. The study of Brazilian Portugese will stand you in good stead if your travel for fun or work in the southern hemisphere. This text even includes a cd to allow you to listen to the language. Boa sorte. CM

This Book Needs to Come With a Disclaimer: Pronunciation is off..
This book covers most of the basics but misses a few essential words and phrases, especially restaurant words, for example -- where is the words "fish" (peixe - "pay-EE-shee) or dessert (sobremesa - "so-bree-MAY-sa" and "menu" (cardápio - pronounced "car-DA-pee-oh), etc? - But more importantly, the pronunciation ke is in Carioca dialect - which is only spoken in Rio and is distinguished by the "sh" at the end of words. If you travel to other cities like São Paulo, people will understand you, but they may also look down on you. I hate to sound mean, but it's the equivalent of a rural southerner asking for directions in New York City. So don't add the "sh" - for example the word for the number 10 is "dez" - pronounced in most of Brasil as "day-zz), but in Rio it is "day-shh" - don't use this pronunciation. Learn the universal way.

Great alternative to a traditional textbook
I have now purchased this same book for multiple languages. Great way to get a quick overview of key aspects of a language.
