Q: Is it worth getting the 20" light kit with battery? or is 18" fine?

I had the same question when choosing. I went with the 20" as the 'hole' in the centre is slightly bigger when using a camera. You may also get a slightly bigger light spread. Batteries give you total autonomy, you can use it wherever you like and you don't have to look for a plug socket. This was one of the factors for buying. Everything comes in the package, batteries, charger, remote, etc.

It's not heavy at all. It's very easy to carry along with you, even if you don't drive.
