Save yourself considerable money
If you don't feel comfortable working with HVAC equipment, please do call a professional. This being said, this is a very easy fix that HVAC companies love to get because they can charge $100-200 to replace a $15 part.First things first: DISCHARGE THE OLD CAPACITOR BEFORE HANDLING. If you don't do this, it can literally kill you. Just use a rubberized screwdriver and touch both contacts before you remove the old one.Second, if your AC unit hums while active, but the fan on the unit doesn't turn on and it doesn't blow cold, it's very likely to be the capacitor. While it's powered and humming, reach a stick into the stationary fan and give it a light spin. If the fan starts running and you have AC again, it's the capacitor.A capacitor is a little bit like a battery, except that it charges up and holds a higher voltage than what is being supplied to it. It uses this extra stored energy to kick-start things like the AC fan. When it fails, the thermostat will ask the AC unit to turn on, but it won't have that extra 'jolt' to get going. To replace, make sure you turn off the AC at the thermostat. Then cut the power to the unit at the metal box outside your house (it'll look like a huge circuit breaker with a metal plug you can remove completely). Then open up the panel on the side of the AC unit and DISCHARGE THE OLD CAPACITOR. It may already be discharged, but make extra sure. Take a picture of the capacitor and the connections with your phone before you unscrew them. Replace with the new one and Bob's your uncle. This fix is easy money for the HVAC guys, so don't let them overcharge you. Be careful and good luck!

Came in great worked great but then 11 months later it quit. However!!!
Came in great worked great but then 11 months later it quit. This happens occasionally even to the best ones. However, it has a twelve month warranty. I contacted the seller through Amazon and the next day they contacted me and shipped me a new one no questions asked. I received it a couple days later. Only four stars because of the inconvenience but five star seller customer service.

Quick way to save hundreds of dollars.
If you hear a series of groans from the outside part of your heat pump / AC unit, as though the motor keeps trying, but can't quite get started -- you may have a blown capacitor. Pull it out, read the specifications, then buy a compatible replacement. When you take the old one out, make careful note of which connections go where, and be sure to match that up for the new one. It never hurts to say a prayer as you install the new capacitor! I put this product in several months ago, and life has been good ever since!
