LAKRIDS BY BÜLOW - A - The Original - 4.4 oz - Chocolate Coated Gourmet Licorice - Authentic Scandinavian Candy Produced in Denmark

Lakrids are dreamy. A superior confection. The black licorice is delicious and has a perfect texture chewy with a bit of bite. (They call it “sweet” licorice because in many parts of Europe, as in Denmark, licorice can typically be salted. I find salted licorice revolting. The way licorice typically comes in Italy on the other hand is laced with mint.) Lakrids are coated in a smooth dreamy delicious chocolate wrapped in a thin delicate coating; not as thick or indelicate as that on M&Ms but its own “Lakrid” candy coating. It’s this candy coating which contains the varied flavors such as sour apple, strawberry, pink, pineapple, passionfruit, mango, etc. - . I wish they weren’t so delicious because I wouldn’t want them as often. The price is high of course they’re imported…truly a delicacy from Denmark. The company, founded in 2007 by Johan Bülow, specializes in creating luxury, gourmet licorice and chocolate (check their website ). Many flavors strawberry white chocolate and licorice, lemon, peach, mango, chocolate toffee crunch, dark and light milk, chocolate, and all kinds of combos… and including seasonal flavors. Pictured is the small jar of Passionfruit. The aroma alone when lift the paper seal is dreamy.

I was so skeptical, b/c a) I thought I didn't like passion fruit; and, b) it just sounded like a super weird flavor combo. BUT, these are freaking AMAZING!!! Each ingredient ...chocolate, passion fruit and black licorice all reveal themselves when you let them unfold by not chomping right down on them. The candy coated shell adds a crunchy texture (think Cadbury robin eggs outershell). The chocolate is creamy and luscious. Then you hit the tart passion fruit flavor which is surprisingly (@ least to me) beautiful with the chocolate. Then...if you've been restrained and not chomped right through this treat, the chewy, slightly salty black licorice appears with another hint of the fresh, tart passion fruit flavor. It is truly a sophisticated and complicated taste experience, not to be missed

I purchased these for my man and was hesitant to try them for myself, but did. THEY ARE AMAZING! Seriously the best chocolate licorice (who even knew that was a thing) I have ever tasted and am hooked. I really think this is the best treat you can have if you aren’t really a sweets kind of person. The chocolate and licorice work really well together. They are worth the price and once you have one, you’ll definitely be buying more.EDIT: I have now repurchased these 5 times. If you are the the fence with getting them, just buy them. They are worth the cost. The only downside is you will become addicted, but some things in life are worth being addicted to!

The Passionfruit and Peach are really delicious! The Raspberry is good. The Mango Vanilla is surprisingly just OK. It's more vanilla than Mango. I don't even know if I can say I tasted Mango. But it's still okay! But the good ones are the passionfruit and Peach. Delicious! But then again, I love black licorice flavors!

My first exposure to Lakrids by Bülow liquorice was when I visited Denmark with my Danish mother. We were at the airport and Lakrids had a little stand with samples of their various flavors. I immediately gravitated to the passion fruit because hey, it’s passion fruit and their liquorice was utterly delicious. I bought the large jar and I found it incredibly difficult to eat just 1 or 2 pieces of candy. The flavor of this liquorice is utter worldly.. If there was a numerical rating for candies this candy would receive the highest mark that is possible. Trust me when I say that this liquorice is a work of art. The different flavors of Lakrids that I have tried all have a depth of flavor that you do not find here in the states. I have tried 5 or 6 different flavors and each one has been incredible. You seriously shouldn’t hesitate in buying their candy, it is quite wonderful.

Do look at the weight. I didn't, and was surprised at the small container for the price. It was delicious. A little different-I think- because the scandinavian licorice contains 'salmiak.'

The licorice has a lovely flavour, not too intense, but it's lacking passionfruit flavour. That needs much more passionfruit flavour to be worthwhile for the price. We won't buy again.

i should have read the ingredients before i ate nearly half the container, because "confectioners glaze" is a euphemism for product made from insects (bugs) ... which is super common in lots of foods and its a sick joke that they are allowed to hide the fact that they are actually feeding us BUGS!if you dont care about the fact they are hiding insect secretions in much of our food today and want to support the practice: the taste cant be criticized and its super addictive (hence why i ate half the container before i read the ingredients) i hope we can get an option to buy this this without the bug paste ingredient in the near future.
