Q: what is the difference between standard packaging ($185) and updated packaging ($149)??

I do not know the difference but i can tell you mine was perfectly and safely packaged for $149. And i must say, the knob is beautiful! Everyone compliments me on it and was so easy to install. Very sturdy and solid.

Q: would this work if I only used the interior and paired with the bighorn handle set for exterior?

No. We would have to fill a hole in our door
