Avedis Zildjian Company K Series Dark Medium Ride Cymbal - 22 Inches

Cymbal taste is subjective.

While I’d consider myself somewhat of a ride cymbal connoisseur, I haven’t played this cymbal with a band yet, so keep that in mind. That said, this is clearly a multi-purpose cymbal that can be used in a variety of settings. Designed in collaboration with Cindy Blackman-Santana, this ride is appropriate for anything from acoustic jazz to hard rock, mainly due to it’s superior articulation and defined, yet musical, lathed bell. It has dry, trashy crash capabilities as well in the proper setting. Having played the original K Custom ride cymbal for many years, the K Dark Medium has drier, trashier tone that has an edge, though the K Custom might be a better choice for louder music where it’s unlathed bell can ring out. Unlike that cymbal however, the K Dark Medium has a uniformity of sound range that some might prefer. What one can notice right away with this ride is the combination of multiple hammerings and lathing that give this cymbal a vintage appearance. Maybe best to describe this cymbal as being a louder, more articulate version of a 60’s era K.
