The best mixer out there
I moved to the US and had to sell my mixer when I relocated. I had this mixer for 10 years or so back home. It’s the BEST mixer! It’s professional enough and can hold on to dough, cookies, big amount of dough and the engine is strong enough without any issue. This is a newer model than what I had but it’s SO good. It’s not very quiet but it’s as a kitchen aid level of noise. It’s not cheap but considering my my last one held on for ~10 years, $500 is not too bad. Keep in mind it is on the bigger size so make sure you have room on the counter

Robust and Well Designed
As a now prior KA user for years, and years, I finally found something that is made to do the job with much less effort and time spent monitoring to allow me to get other prep ready. My wife told me one of the most common comments was that this unit takes a learning curve from KA users. I tell you it is the contrary. It is more of an un-learning curve as if an awful driver taught you how to drive in an unreliable car. Then you get into a car that is responsive and made for how you wish to drive.I do not have to watch to see if the yeast starter is going to mix well to form dough... or help it gather from being wet and dry in different areas. The unit gets it all. Then the cover that comes with it for splash... also serves to do your first proofing without even touching anything. The spline that the tools connect to to mix or whip is adjustable if you want your tooling at different heightsThe whipping, mixer and dough tools have large shields to prevent splashes or dough from riding up into the shaft area. And they are a very high grade material with an intuitive shape for good results. My first dough experience was a fresh and rewarding difference from past machine.Only Drawback is-- Additional attachments can be costly or unattainable. Website Store in Amazon does not function properly for the US market.- Small amount of right to left movement on the head assy while mixing dense doughs... will have to find out how well the unit lasts with use.

mostly a good experience, but...
UPDATED REVIEW 3/29/17I've downgraded this to 4 stars. Kenwood seriously needs to get its acts together in terms of customer service. I initially contacted Kenwood because I wanted a flex beater for this machine. I found one with the model number that Kenwood told me to look for. And it didn't work; it squeaked like all he**. I have been going back and forth with the manufacturer of the beater and Kenwood who couldn't understand why it didn't work. Well, finally Kenwood referred me to their US-based customer service, who told me that the AT502 does NOT work with machines made for the US, only ones made for the UK. And there is NO flex beater for this machine. That means I'm just going to be scraping down the sides of the bowl forever. However, I'm still glad to have dumped Kitchenaid--except for this one glitch, I maintain that this is the superior machine.original review:This machine is truly amazing. My old Kitchenaid Artisan died after about 12 years of use, so I decided to replace it with a Kitchenaid Pro with bowl lift because it got such good reviews. That machine arrived and immediately started giving me trouble, so I sought some advice from an online discussion forum and someone recommended this machine. I decided to try it out, and I'm SO glad I did. It's quite pricey, but it works like a dream, and I have a feeling it will last forever (I will post reviews in subsequent years to attest to its durability or lack thereof).PROS:It's quieter than a Kitchenaid, and the noise it makes isn't as high pitched, so it's less annoyingThe bowl is easy to attach--much more so than the Kitchenaid Pro, which I really struggled withThe basic attachments it comes with are huge, well-suited to the bowl, and are all dishwasher safe (unlike the Kitchenaid Pro)The speeds are on the FRONT rather than the back of the mixer (unlike the Kitchenaid)The dough hook is extremely well-designed; I never had to fiddle with the dough. I tried it out this weekend on both a double batch of wheat bread and a half batch of calzone dough. It peformed very well with both; much better than the Kitchenaid did. In fact, my wheat bread came out with a lighter crumb than it ever has before with EITHER Kitchenaid mixer. I'm so impressed. It whips a small amount of cream very well without leaving a pool at the bottom, unlike the KitchenaidThe cookie dough I made came out great. It seems to have plenty of other available attachments if I ever want to buy themCONS:The price is high; I'm not sure where I would get one serviced in my area if I ever needed that done. But I have a feeling it will be worth the extra money nevertheless. It only comes in one color, so if you're looking for something to dazzle the look of a kitchen that isn't gray, this may not be the mixer for you.The cord is a bit short; I had to move things around on my countertop a bitI do wish the bowl had one longer vertical handle like the Kitchenaid model instead of the two smaller ones; I don't find the two handles to be helpful.Note: I don't use splashguards, so I can't really speak to the design of this one.
