Works! Definitely crank it up, don't run it on low.
It looks like the package was opened and someone tried to get it to work but couldn't get it started so they returned it. The valve was wide open upon receipt. It didn't start for me the first time, no gas was coming out. I closed off the valve tight, took the valve off of the tank, put the valve back on the tank with it closed tight. Once I opened the valve again, you could hear the gas come out. I can see what they were talking about with running it with low gas volume. It heated up the whole top portion of the stainless steel pipe. I quickly shut it off. Next time I just opened the valve on the tank all the way, and opened the turn knob on the handle. It came right to life with a push of the igniter and only the very tip was getting red. I will probably need to shut it down quickly to avoid overheating it. I'll give it a try tomorrow and we'll see how it goes, more to come. :>)Day 1 with the new torch: WOW! This thing has some serious heat! I connected the Map gas cylinder, cranked it up, and it got that copper pipe hot in no time. It even handled reheating an existing joint to adjust it slightly. When combined with the dribble stopper (pipe plug), it did a wonderful job. I'm never going to go back to butane again. I'm increasing the overall rating to 5 stars.

Great torch
Having a torch like this is so much nicer than having the torch head threaded directly on top of the cylinder. It makes it a lot easier when soldering under bathroom and kitchen sinks.

Nice torch
Well built. Nice flame. Good heat. And the hose makes it very easy to get the torch into tight spaces.

A game changer!
I make small items from copper and silver and bought this torch with hose so I could use MAPP gas on larger pieces that require a broader, hotter flame than my little torch provides. The hose on this torch allows me to place the gas canister upright on the floor so i can use the MAPP gas flame at my workbench without having to hold the weight of the canister while doing so. It works well. The gas is adjustable at the handle and at the regulator, however if the gas is not open enough at either place the flame burns too hot and the torch tip becomes cherry red very quickly making the actual range of flame adjustability rather limited to the upper range. That said, in the freedom it's given me to use the broader, hotter flame, it's been a game changer for me.

The igniter didn't last very long
I like having a valve on the torch body and it gets plenty hot but after only a couple of weeks the igniter doesn't work anymore so I need to use a cig lighter to fire it up

Gr8 torch
The media could not be loaded. I bought this torch because I got a replacement for a different one that did not work. This one is very ideal for melting, precious metal and spot melting. It works really well and I’m very happy with this purchase.

Have to have it on high or will burn the tip off
I thought I reviewed this once you have to keep it on high temperature or it will burn the tip off of it. I did contact seller and complained I kept it though. Although as I'm going through my tanks of expensive map gas can't keep it on high when you start running out of gas so that means if you don't have a full can of gas or mostly full are you going to burn the tip out then it melts the igniter and oh my goodness it will melt the tip unless you want to use a bunch of partial cans all on the new end do not do it. In my case the seller I bought from is awful proud of these things. I wish I would have complained again after my tank started to run out and I can't use it up with this thing because of course it'll burn the tip out and heat everything up and ruin it which it is right now. If you buy this, don't let the forces that be convince you to keep it. Which is what I'm guilty of. Should have insisted on a refund.
