Q: Is this the same as modeling paste?

Hi, yes, this "molding paste" is the same as modeling paste, same product category, different term from perhaps a different marketer/manufacturer. Light molding paste by Golden weighs less than half what heavy molding paste weighs, due to its lighter density. It has an amazing fibrous quality to it as well. Not sure how you are using it, but if you need to build up substantial impasto effects with minimal weight on your canvas, this is the stuff to do it with. Hope that helps!

Q: Can I use a wood burner on its lowest setting to reshape or make indents in this paste once it has dried? If not, does anyone know what I could use?

Pretty sure you can not. It is a wonderful product tho. I actually draw in mine with a stick type thing before it dries completely. Basic image ready to paint when dry. People also use a type of spackling from hardware store. Works almost same.

Q: We want to make salt dough christmas ornaments, would this work to construct pieces of a gingerbread house? Also can it be colored ?

This could be used to coat the pieces and make them shiny and waterproof. It may not be strong enough to be used as glue. It can be colored but is translucent. I have painted over it with acrylics when it is dry and then sprayed it with acrylic spray .
