Been using the Culligan CP5-BBS it claims 5 microns for 10k gallons this says 25 micron 5000 gallons has anyone used both? Is this worth double the $?

I have been using these for well over a year now. They are carbon filters. I'm inclined to say, hey carbon is carbon. Speaking as an Engineer: You can drive yourself nuts with specs. They are very similar to the GE carbon which costs much more $$. On the flip side....I use this as a whole house filter and my drinking water runs through a Reverse Osmosis system. This whole house filter radically extends the filter life of the RO system's filters. Would I drink the water from the output of a single CP5BBS ? No. Should you ? Probably not. That doesn't make it bad. It's merely a major "stage 1" filter. You really should be using a second system for drinking water. That's my 2 cents.

Is this the same as GE's FXHTC filter?

It is the same. Well, the Culligan has a Cartridge Life of 6 months, depending upon usage and water conditions. I purchase all from Amazon. Price is best I can find. I use only the Culligan filters in my Whole House Culligan system now. Never again will I use GE (Whirlpool) filters. I installed one in 2008. It apparently had a problem because my house lines became plugged with carbon sediment. What a disaster. Spent a long while flushing the system, cleaning faucet filters, etc. Never have I experienced a problem with Culligan filter RFC-BBSa. Outstanding. Used it for years.

How do you know its a RFC-BBSA if its out of the package? That model is supposed to be good for 10,000 gallons.

Good question. But, why would it be out of the package, unless opened by mistake? I record changing my filter on computer calendar. I would simply shorten the time (to 3 months maximum) if the filter is out of the package. 8/4/2014 I'm editing this. RFC-BBSa is 25 microns, good for 10,000 gallons, 6 months.
