Nice
These are pretty awesome. Worked well and consistent. You have to be very careful about dialing in the potentiometer to get it set to the desired range. A fraction of a degree turn may be all you need.

Very poorly assembled
These work, but not right out of the bag. The emitter and detector are leaded, through-hole devices which are apparently hand soldered to the board -- and very badly at that. None of the five boards I got had the two devices pointed in the same direction. Also, the three-pin, .1 connector appears to be a straight-pin header with the pins bent over to make the 90 degree connector. None of those headers were straight, and none were butted to the PC board. Are these fatal problems? No. However, I don't expect to buy something billed as a ready-to-go product and have to spend time sorting out what are essentially quality issues that should have been resolved at the factory. Next time I will buy these sensor units from a more expensive but better qualified vendor. I also know not to buy anything else from DAOKI, since I can expect to whiz away more of my time fixing their quality issues.

More a question than a review
I bought these for a purpose for which they are not designed. I wanted to design a touch-free switch to turn the hood light over my stove on/off, just by waving my hand in front of it. I set everything up on the bench and, after shielding the IR sensor, it worked great! I left it powered on and every now and then I'd wave my hand in front of it and verify everything still worked. It did for a few days, then stopped. Adjusting the sensitivity didn't help...I could make it so sensitive it was always triggered, but as soon as I lowered it enough to stop that, it didn't recognize anything in front of it. Eventually I looked at the IR transmitter LED with my cell phone camera, and it was barely lit. Apparently that LED is being overdriven and, under constant power, burns out.Has anybody else tried running these continuously? Has anybody else had the IR LED burn out? Thanks.

Doesn't sense distances anywhere near 30 cm
Maxium sensing, even with the potentiometer, is MAYBE 2 cm. it should be rated for 0 cm (actually touching the LED's) to < 2 cm. The other reviews must be fake. Do not buy these or you will be disappointed. The trim pot is not sensitive -- it's practically nonfunctional.
