Great read. Very helpful. Give it a shot. I dare ya.
What I found most helpful in the book was the concept of: Does it bring you Freedom? Does it bring you Love? Does it make you feel alive? Does it bring you peace? I remember it as FLAP.I appreciate it because it helps me stay in the present tense, curious about the people and world in front of me.I’m a team player that for the last 10 years has been working by myself. It’s hard. I’m in residential real estate. I don't love what I do but I do it for the right reasons. I grew up with a very absent father. I didn't want my kids to have that same experience. This profession allows me to make my own schedule. It allowed me to never miss a dance recital, basketball game or talent show.Real estate coaching is very goal oriented. I struggled with that. A lot of the coaching I had focused on your “Big Why.” Your big why was a lighthouse, a beacon you focused on and sailed towards.I could never come up with a big "why." It never motivated me. I was just trying to get through the week. Pay the bills. Keep all the balls in the air. It was all very future oriented.I struggle with “long term planning”. Long term to me is next week. I wrote goals. They turned out to be more like a list of things to get done. What most others in my world would consider short term goals. I felt like a rudderless sail boat with no lighthouse in sight most of the time. I'd reach my little “goals” and feel good for about 10 seconds at best. These feelings were compounded when I lost my wife to breast cancer leaving me with three teenage daughters to raise. Working in a 100% commissioned based job was hard with a capital H. Putting on a smile and showing people homes took everything I had for a long time but the bills needed to be paid.I am only sharing all this because Tripp's approach, the approach he shares in the book, would have been very helpful as I white- knuckled my way through much of my career…. and life.Things are better now. I have launched all those teenage girls into college and they are great humans with big hearts that are thriving.I am now using FLAP to launch my second act. I have some fear and anxiety about that. I am finding the book VERY helpful right now because as I chart where to go from here I can let go of all the goal oriented, future thinking training I struggled with for so many years. I have a different way of thinking and seeing things. I am enjoying staying present and curious and seeing what opportunities show up.

good read
This was a good read. I’ve read tons of self help books, but this is the first one by this author I’ve read. I’d be open to reading some of his other books in the future

This book is for guys who don't want to settle (and want to live a deeper cut of life)
I love Tripp’s podcast and I’ve experienced his coaching. I’ve always known that Tripp’s ideas and approach to the creative process were unique and practical (they work). I’m glad that Tripp wrote this book so more people can experience what he has to offer. This Book Will Make You Dangerous by Tripp Lanier is an irreverent (and funny) guidebook that will help you forge your own path-if you dare. It’s a wildly refreshing change of pace from other personal development books that try to sell you on it’s ideas and systems being ‘the answer’. Tripp starts with YOU and your own unique experience.Tripp begins by masterfully turning the idea of life purpose being some sort of magical life task and invites you to go to the core of your experience and notice where you feel more Freedom, Aliveness, Love, and Peace in your life. What if we played for these experiences instead of fixating on outcomes that could take us further away from these experiences?Tripp’s book really shines when he talks about the idea of strength. He asks you to not pay attention to what you think ‘should’ make you strong and be surprised by what actually does. This type of encouragement to ‘check in’ with your experience is laced throughout the book. This kind of approach is for guys who don’t want to settle or copy what everyone else is doing.Tripp does a good job of helping the reader recognize what their up against in the pursuit of creating a life you really care about. Tripp reminds you to expect discomfort in the creative process and do the next simple, doable, (and a little scary) action. Tripp helps you see that there are greater options and possibilities when we train ourselves to live and go after our desires at the ‘edge’ of our comfort zones. If you can be bold NOW-you’re in the drivers seat. You don’t have to settle for feeling trapped, drained, isolated, bored, and stressed.Lastly, Tripp consistently reminds you-through his own stories and reminders-that we don’t have to take ourselves and our lives so seriously. I mean, he starts the book off with commentary while he’s at the Butt Doctor. Being playful is at the heart of this book. Pick it up and enjoy the ride.

Clear, Solid, Practical, Doable
At last, a clear understanding of the framework for internal motivation drivers. The logic is flawless, yet the approach remains wonderfully human. Excellent job! Thanks, @TrippLanier—this book is sure to impact and transform many lives!
S**!
Probably more useful to someone else.
So the core principles of this book are pretty sound. Make your own win condition, live like there's no safety net, the only thing in your way is you. It's good advice and he elaborates on it well. So if you feel like you're going through the motions in life it's worth a read. 4 stars because I didn't get a lot out of it personally, it was more of a reminder than anything, -1 because he shills his podcast too much. You could do a lot worse for a "self help" book though.
