Q: Where is this manufactured?

They are assembled in USA, in New Jersey.

Q: How can this possibly work properly with only a single output jack? ethernet is full duplex - to see traffic both ways you need 2 outputs.

This works the same as a bi-directional port mirror on a switch, which depending on switch manufacturer, can take various amounts of CPU resources from the switch to process. Having the SharkTap takes that load off of the switch, and is essentially an aggregate port tap with 1 monitor port. This is similar in use to the Ixia Net Optics 10/100/1Gb Copper port Aggregator, https://www.ixiacom.com/products/tap-aggregators, which has 2 monitor ports. Currently we are using the SharkTap to mirror all traffic going to an Internet firewall. This mirrored traffic is examined on a Linux server running NTOP professional, http://www.ntop.org. This gives real-time stats of transmit and receive top talkers and flow information by end station, and allows packet captures to dump files that are reviewed with WireShark. Essentially it is an effective, low cost NetScout without all of the bells and whistles.

Q: Is the monitoring port bidirectional?

Packets that come to the TAP on the monitoring port are discarded. So no packets can get to the Network ports from the TAP itself. The monitor port will auto-negotiate as a full-duplex link, at the link level, but no data is accepted on the monitoring port, only sent out from the SharkTap.
