Album For the Girls
Lana Del Rey's "Chemtrails Over The Country Club" on vinyl is nothing short of a masterpiece. It's easily one of my all-time favorite albums, certainly one of my favorites by her (up there with NFR) and the experience of listening to it on vinyl is simply enchanting. The sound quality is superb, and every note, every lyric, resonates with a level of depth and richness that feels like a warm embrace. Lana's voice is pure magic, and this album showcases her artistry at its finest. She was born to be heard on vinyl.I don't have anything to say that hasn't already been said but PLEASE get this album! It's truly immaculate with beautiful and cohesive theming throughout- Breaking Up Slowly is my fave.

Extraordinary.
This may be one of the best albums I’ve ever heard. Pleasant enough listen. Creative moody nostalgic feelings abound (I can’t believe she wasn’t around when I was a teenager in ‘76. Listening to Tulsa Jesus Freak put me there again). And its a bit short, and there are a couple of clunkers. But that last song For Free is so far beyond anything she’s ever done, it snaps the whole thing into focus and it crystallizes—this is how this great record ends, and always will for the rest of my life. So keep up the good work. The return of “album oriented rock.” I could use plenty more records like this.

Absolutely Essential for Beings With Ears
She begins the album with a breathy vocal, beckoning us into her world on “White Dress.” Lyrically she goes from “Like Sun Ra I feel small” “to feeling like a god” until the end twist- “Kinda makes me feel like maybe I was better off.” Better off without fame? I love the ambiguity of this song with its sweet melody and hazy vibe. The title track comes next, a strange piece I can’t quite decipher aside from the description of a certain lifestyle. Thankfully, Jack Antonoff once again is Lana’s co-conspirator on the first seven songs. I think their partnership is magical. Other highlights include the lyrically cinematic “Wild At Heart”, “Dark But Just A Game”, “Not All Who Wander Are Lost”- a gorgeous blue meditation with a bluesy background and slightly Oriental vocal melody, “Yosemite” with Lana intoning lines like “How green was my valley?” is a great example of Lana’s love of Americana. I love “Breaking Up Slowly” just for the lines “I don’t want to live with a life of regrets. I don’t want to end up like Tammy Wynette.” Nothing personal, Tammy, but men are making it increasingly difficult to stand by them! Aside from an interesting arrangement, “Dance Till We Die” is my least favorite with Lana’s lyrical obsession with dancing and parties getting a bit old. But giving credit where credit is due- there are much less references to both on this album and it’s better for it. Though I love her originals the standout track for me is actually a cover. Lana Del Rey ends this magnificent trip into her version of Americana with a cover song to beat any I’ve ever heard- Joni Mitchell’s “For Free” To call it heavenly doesn’t do it justice. I get the shivers every time I hear it. The arrangement, both instrumentally and vocally stick pretty close to the original but there are ever-so-slight differences too. Having known the song for years, I don’t think I fully understood the song until I heard Lana’s version. And it was a revelation. Clearly autobiographical, it has Joni giving up much of her freedom by becoming famous. As an artist she’s torn between playing for the pure love of it like the street musician she’s singing about and the way she used to play- playing ‘for free’ and now being famous and having her financial if not spiritual needs taken care of. She both envies the street musician and has sympathy for him as no one stops to listen because he’d ‘never been on the TV’. Lana seems to relate to this artistic interior tug of war and that’s one of the reasons I love her. “Chemtrails Over The Country Club” is a must-have for any Lana Lover!

Jewel box broken EVERY time
The music is great, but every time I buy a CD the jewel box is broken. Sure wish Amazon would figure a way to deliver them with damage.
