Yardley Of London April Violets for Women Eau de Toilette Spray, 1.7 Ounce

Oh, if only I COULD re-order this EXACT perfume, the ORIGINAL, delightful Yardley "APRIL VIOLETS" in the burgundy-and-cream box (pictured here). Unfortunately, in 1995, Yardley re-formulated the product to appeal to "modern" tastes. It stinks of alcohol and tobacco, "modern" smells. They gave that foul stuff the same name, an insult to the real thing. Anything in the NEW floral-design box is the NEW SWILL. Thank you, Amazon, for refunding my recent purchases, which arrived in floral boxes. I was belatedly trying to stock up, didn't know about the switch, found out by emailing Yardley. directly. I'm very happy that my first order was 2 large bottles in burgundy boxes, the REAL Yardley APRIL VIOLETS!

I love the smell it is so soft and feminine smelling

A lot of reviews mention the reformulation- in 2015, Yardley changed the iconic April Violets scent to be derived out of 100% natural ingredients and appeal to a more modern demographic. While previous users complained of the "grandma" scent, the 1913 era scent was incredibly timeless (and like many, I bought this hoping to recapture some memories of lost loved ones.) - but this new one is its own thing with the same name.So first impressions: the scent is less a delicate floral and more of a powerful, unapologetic scent for a more confident woman who lives in an era of women's suffrage and women's lib. There's notes of sandalwood, orris root, citrus and vanilla as well as the violet scent. The first spritz is very strong in the base notes but the dry down is very powdery and floral, but still musky. I'd never expect it to smell so sensual, but it does. It practically smells like a cologne. This has a long staying power, probably a few hours and a long range for the scent. For price to scent, it is a good value, but if you're buying it for the nostalgia, it is a different scent.

My only complaint is the scent fades too quickly.

With fresh hints of spring, it is a nice light scent that is overall pleasing. The value in price makes it a nice gift for a loved one who is not super showy but enjoys these fresh hints of spring. Spritz a little in the common rooms of your house for a refresh. Enjoy!

Amazon indicates this is the 'newer' product over the other bottle I'd purchased last year (4.2 ounces)I don't know what is in this bottle but it is definitely NOT Yardley April Violets; a scent normally sweet and fragrant. This is some smoky, pungent, difficult on the nose spray. I immediately contacted Amazon for credit and reordered my same product of last year. (see photo)Five stars to Amazon. Zero stars to whomever is trying to promote this product through Amazon.

I am very pleased with this spray. It exceeds expectations.
