Q: Are there refills or do you need to buy a new kit every time?

Unfortunately you either buy a new kit or find other buyer that just have snaps for sale without the tools.

Q: when put together, how tall is each set? (not the diameter of the circle, but the height of all the pieces put together)

That depends on the thickness of your fabric and how much it would squish down when the snaps are clamped onto it.

Q: My stems on caps not compressing, sticking out too far or bending to the side, not allowing snaps to close. Any suggestions??

Sometimes I squeeze the n realign the tool and squeeze again. If you squeeze too hard it will smash the post flat and spread it out. The male snap won’t snap into the female if that happens. I used some of the less desirable colors to practice on a scrap of fabric.
