Perfect on FM. Not useable on AM or SW.
I'm giving this four stars because it works perfectly for my application. My favorite talk radio program comes on an FM station at midnight but I rarely stay up that late. I don't podcast it because i live in the country with 4G internet and have a limited amount of data.So after a quick and easy setup, and slipping in an 8Gig micro sd card, the radio has perfectly recorded the program automatically for the last several nights and it's so nice to fast forward through the commercials!FM audio quality is great. Close to the Meloson, same kind of high excursion micro-speaker with passive bass radiator. Now the bad:AM and short wave audio quality is abysmal. Literally sounds like the radio has been sealed up in a box full of foam rubber. Unusable for that reason alone. I have not tried to record on AM and then pull the sd card to listen on another device to see if the recording sounds as bad.Mute-with-each-tuning-step which makes tuning around the band all but impossible but expected on a cheap digital.Plugging in the battery charger generates a lot of static so if you leave it to record a show, make sure the battery is charged because if it records while plugged in, you get three hours of static.So. If you need to automatically record a show on FM. This does that beautifully. It's small, easy to use and program, and the FM audio is great. If you need it to do anything on AM /SW Look elsewhere.

Works great!
I wanted a radio that can record radio stations programs so I can listen to them later on. This radio does just that plus keeps me inform on weather alerts!

Was great while it lasted...
Took a gamble on an unknown Chinese brand, and I got what I paid for. It worked great at first. I bought it to record late night talk radio shows on the FM dial. First, it only worked on one of my SD cards. It would not recognize my other three SD cards, all 16 GB. So I had to start using my USB thumb drives, one of which is 1 GB, the other 2 GB. It did record fine on those... about 90% of the time. It had great reception on the FM band, which is the only one I used, so I cannot comment on the shortwave or AM bands. There are drawbacks when attempting to record as it has pre-programmed time increments built in, and you can only select these. It only allows the option to record up to 3 hours, and only in 15 minute increments (30 minutes difference at higher increments). However, only two months after purchase, the radio now no longer works. I get no sound and the volume control no longer works. The blue display screen simply goes blank whenever I turn on the radio. It no longer records or plays back from the USB thumb drives. There is no reset button on this unit, so I tried removing the battery for a few minutes, then replacing it, in an attempt to "re-boot" it. Now, the radio might work 10% of the time after doing that, but still cannot use the USB or SD ports. All in all, I like the design concept, but the construction is shoddy, and the firmware is clunky.Just a waste of money. It can no longer record shows, which is why I bought it. There were also formatting issues on some of the files when recording onto the SD card, so when I attempted to transfer these files to my hard drive, my computer OS did not recognized the file for transferring to my computer as the file appears to be corrupted. So the mp3 file is marooned on the SD card.Too late to return. Please consider looking elsewhere. I will no longer buy this cheap brand again. I barely got two months worth of use out this radio. Definitely not worth the $46 I paid for it. Do yourself a favor and stick with a well-known reputable brand.

Poorly finished radio and battery not working
The Lithium battery comes with the radio was swelling up and could not be charged. The battery has a label 2015 03 13, 9 years old battery? The finishing of the radio is also poor.I bought another radio at the same time from Amazon- ZHIWHIS Portable Bluetooth Radio - and at a lower price, the quality is much better!

Very Functional As Described - Low Quality Audio On MW/SW
I purchased this radio after reading all the negative reviews about the low quality of the radio playback and recording of MW/SW bands. I was curious enough to see if this was true and if there was a workaround. Good and Bad news. 1) The audio on MW/SW is in fact heavy on base, thus depending on the person speaking it can be hard to understand the speech 2) When recording MW/SW you can in fact use a workaround. That would be to eject the SD Card and insert it into another device with the ability to adjust the audio. (e.g. a media player w/equalizer on a PC or Laptop app). FM playback, awesome (nice speaker). FM Recording, Awesome. MW/SW Recording can be adjusted to sound very, very good, if using workaround above. I know lots of people want to record a show and play it back on the KA108, and that works fine for all bands, but especially for MP3's (recorded elsewhere) or for FM recorded on the device. However, for better audio on MW/SW, record it on the device and play it back on a PC or Laptop.
